Just got off the phone with the Park Ranger at Kissimmee State Park. She was very nice, but told me that hammock camping is not allowed in the park. It is against the rules to tie...
The bar end barely protrudes from the webbing and it isn't pointy. So can't see how to put anything on it to distribute the force over a greater area.
I had thought of using a re-enforcement patch (and probably will) but it kind of defeats the idea of not sewing my ridgeline. When making this tarp, I followed the idea I saw elsewhere on this forum...
Just finished one ginormous Hex Tarp for my bridge hammock. Unlike most of my projects this one seems to have come out right on the first shot.:D
However, I almost poked a hole in it when getting...
A lot less than if you are spanning a river.
Here is a link to a good website for materials as well as some plans like the Whoopie Sling plan shown in the link.

HomeMadeHiker -- $138 you say??? Do you have a link to post? I am seeing the queen size at $210 and king at $280 on the Bloomingdale website and that is on sale. Please enlighten as to model,...
Hey Jazilla... That's what I'm making. Hope it turns out as well as yours did. This is my first time "stick building" using fabric. Doing that with wood is so much easier.
Just FYI Sewing noseeum netting to noseeum netting is absolutely no problem.
Thanks folks. I will cut down to 6 feet and pack some extenders.
I was doing some test hangs in the pine forest behind my house and was hanging crazy distances of up to 40 feet. Since it is a...
Oh come on now.;)
I am seriously trying to decide how long to make the Whoopie Slings. While the advantage of having the longer whoopie is obvious (being able to hang between trees that are...
Hey Pips,
Almost forgot. Go Panthers...;)
And thanks for your reply.
Thanks for the responses. I thought I saw this somewhere on one of the many bugnet videos posted, but it just seemed unlikely somehow.
OK time to start building. Those skeeters are killing me!
About to make a bug net for my bridge hammock and I need to sew two pieces of noseeum netting together. Can they be sewn directly to each other using a short stitch length or should I sew each piece...
Good points guys. Thanks.
Thanks for the input guys. I was able to do a little seam ripping and adjust the length. At the same time I bar tacked in some additional tubular webbing to form the suspension triangle and...
Grizz,
I did use your process of making the paper template and folding the fabric over. (Obviously though I did something in there terribly wrong...) After measuring it more carefully than I did...
LubbockHammockGuy,
Very impressive to figure that out so quickly having not ever built a bridge hammock yourself. Thanks for the help.
Any one else have any thoughts on compensating for the...
LubbockHammockGuy,
Thanks for pointing out that one. Never crossed my mind that I could have messed that one up. Turns out when I compare the suspension sides of the hammock I am off by 4.5...
I have made a bridge hammock based on Grizz's Rhino Bridge. When I lay in it on my back I noticed the spreader bar on the head end is not level and that corresponds with the hammock on my right side...
Spreader bar diameter specs per Grizz:
For 250 lbs and under use the 0.625 diameter bars
Heavier go up to the next diameter, 0.7xx

Great prices. Good service. And some plans for the beginner DIY'er.

I am trying to figure out the relationship between the depth of the curve in a bridge hammock and the width and length of the hammock so I can better understand how to construct a hammock to meet my...
I had the same question... If you listen the Grizz very very carefully he mentions it is called a Loop Turner. It looks so much easier than darning needles for burying line etc. He is a link to...

Thanks for posting your drawing.
I have been playing around with a scaled model myself and have been examining your design. I am concerned that your scale model might not account for...

Great thoughts and observations. And as a former teenage son myself... I know.:thumbup1:
Welcome... Where in FL are you going to be hangin'? You said South Florida... If down near the Everglades an UQ may be overkill. A pad and a good bag will probably do ya. As you work your way...
Thanks for the welcome from all of you.
I am hoping to make it to the FL hang. Just need to work out something to hang in. The HH is not going to be it. On to DIY.

Chrisman I sooooo like the looks of that. My son mentioned to me last night the idea of supporting the corners to the ridgeline like you did, but I was very concerned about the effect on the...
Chrisman2013, that would be great.
I was playing around with some small scale last night, but the problem with small scale is you can't lay in it...
I am moving toward the conclusion that a...
Alamosa,
Thanks for the thread. Spot on to my line of thinking with the exception of his making the secondary gather up the length of the hammock. Seemingly ingenious excepting for his numerous...
I took a quick look at the link you have above. I think there is one essential difference to the one I am envisioning. What I am picturing would have two sections of fabric whipped at each end of...
Cool. Thanks for the input Sarg.
Quick follow up. Any thoughts on using a double layer of flat bedsheets for a test fabric? Strong enough to hold 180 lbs.?
Thanks Sarg.
I guess my real dilemma is knowing which ones are strong enough to support my weight. Being new to this, I was reluctant at first to trust the HH I just got. I could not believe...

Thanks for the encouragement -- I think.:)
Also for the reminder about the Zip Ties. I read that previously on one of your posts and thought what a great idea, but of course forgot until...
Hey folks. I am a noobie and just got my HH (Explorer Ultra). Was comfortable enough but failed to meet my expectations. At just over 6 feet tall, I was surprised to find I could not get flat...
After 20+ years in Florida sharing the weather report in December with friends from more Northerly regions may still be my favorite activity. It is even better done while laying in my Hammock in the...
