Excited about the cold here in North Texas as well. Gonna spend a couple nights at Fairfield (again) this weekend with our other outdoors group. Got a couple of 'speriments going on...one is...
For once in my life, being short has an advantage! I love my Hennessy Expedition, and love it even more now that I've got the zipper installed by 2QZQ. But I can understand why tall people struggle...
Thanks unclemike for putting this event together. Thanks to all the gracious hammock folks for letting me take a gander at their setups and take pictures and ask dumb questions.
Sorry about the...
Ringtail and Pgibson speak the gospel. We did a rim-to-rim this past August and the Rangers were nazis about hanging. Water is not an issue.
I think you had a typo in your iteniary at #2, which...
Interested to know how this hammock performs in the long haul. They're priced as a premium product, but waiting to hear how they do in the backcountry.
Me and the husbee have separate hammocks, it does, indeed, hamper cuddle time. However, we agree that sleeping in the hammocks has provided us with the best sleep of our lives. The only regret is...
Having the pad and sleeping bag as a go to ground option is one of the benefits of that system over an UQ.
Addressing the vapor barrier question/comment...you're on the right track putting some...
Can't comment on the triple stitch feature, however, you can achieve a double stitch using whats called a cover stitch with a serger.
However, serging is completely different than using a regular...
The husband uses a big Agnes bag and pad in his hammock, and is very happy with results so far. He stays warm and it's not too much of a struggle to get into with the bag semi unzipped. However, on...
We have Mayan hammocks we sleep in full time, have not needed an UQ yet. We have been laying on top of a quilt or blanket in the hammock, then covering up. Been more than adequate.
Mind you we...
Howdy from Fort Worth!
Howdy from Fort Worth as well! Glad you made the transition from lurker to member. You're going to have much better sleep and stay dry now that you've made the transition.
Check out this DFW...
I love the Dutch whoopie hooks as well, it's the whoopies I'm less wild about. If the hammock has a load, (UQ, TQ, etc) it's really difficult to unbind the constrictor and get slack. But that's by...
Like all things in hammocking...tarp tautness depends on the situation. Rain, wind, etc.
The ridgeline should only be so tight as to not have much sag. A good test is to pitch the tarp, then...
Rat has a point, a diamond tarp, properly pitched, in most conditions will keep you dry and warm.
Experience is a cruel instructor, and the lightweight, Spartan coverage may leave you and your...
If you're forking over $300 for a super-premium piece of gear, the best bang for your buck is going to be an UQ. If you end up not liking hanging, you can resell it for the same as what you paid.

You gotta be from Texas to understand this sort of thing...
Fantastic work! As a Texan, I can say, "Ya done us proud, son. All y'all are welcome to visit anytime"
Hammock thermometer
76+: no insulation, silk liner for comfort
75 - 70: fleece blanket in hammock for insulation
65 - 69: windshield reflector and fleece
60 - 64: windshield reflector, down...
I feel I get better UQ performance when I don't use the tie outs. It allows the sides of the UQ to come up the side of the hammock body. I've tried both ways, I like it sans tie outs.
Big tarp will help cut the wind too. Think Superfly or other XL tarp.
Bite the bullet and get the zipper mod done. UQ with the bottom entry works, but you need to adjust the UQ a little once you're in. It's a pain to do with the bottom entry.
A little advice from a...
Hate to say it, but you've got gaps in your UQ. The foot area is prone to the condition. Like silent chad said, have someone lay in the hammock and you can investigate what's going on with the UQ.

+1 to those using mummy bags as top quilts. I'm rocking a modded North Face down Blue Kazoo I bought at a garage sale for $30. Removed the hood and first 6" of material and it weighs in the 2lb...
@Chug, You gotta get rid of the 550 paracord. It's bulky, soaks up a ton of water, and it stretches. There is wisdom in the other posters words about the zing it and lash it, the stuff is light and...
I'd be interested, as long as it stays charged all night. If it didn't hold its glow through the night, I would question why I bought the stuff to begin with when I could've just used the reflective...
Vertigo, welcome to the world of restful sleep. I'm glad you joined the full-timer crew. It's amazing how those aches and pains disappear after sleeping suspended in a hammock. Thanks for sharing...
I've been a long time Hennessy Hammock user (7+ years). Decided to take the plunge and full-time it. Cannibal and others have a lot of great indoor hammock advice.
Yes the diagonal is huge on...

My observations and setup for both a Brazilian and Mayan hammock for indoors for fulltiming. Hammockforums was a gold-mine of information for me during the planning and install of my hammocks as bed...
End of summer, around here, that's late September. The weather will have started to cool down. And the kiddies will be in school. I'd say the first weekend in October.
Ive been to BB in October...
Eastern Oklahoma has the trees you need. If you pick somewhere on the southern side of Oklahoma, you'll probably pick up some Texans who just need an excuse to go hang out in the woods.
I'd...
