Without the bottom lengthwise supports you would really have to crank down on the suspension. I am willing to bet you would still get the banana effect or rip it apart trying to get the suspension...
From what you are describing sounds like a Maverick Gear Hammock. I myself would not like to sleep in a bathtub style hammock as getting in and out would be a pain in the backside. ...

Ripstop Nylon has a little more give that makes for a softer lay and Taffeta Polyester is more rigid like sleeping on a semi-hard mattress. It all depends on if you like a soft lay or a more...
Your Welcome riverjoe :) . it was in a thread over at bushcraftusa .
Your Welcome and Thank You as well :)
Here are 2 hammocks I made from Wally-World dollar bin fabric :

If I were to tie knots other than a marlin spike hitch in my webbing I prefer Ray Mears method.
I hope that helps :)

A walking foot attachment is no harder putting on than changing out a regular presser foot. I.E. you unscrew the old presser foot, put the walking foot attachment on as you would the regular foot (...
Here are some pictures of my Singer 328K with the even feed/walking foot attachment that makes the slippery stuff easy to sew, I picked it up at my local sewing repair shop :
Yes that is a DIY with the "hangnout" top entry bug net made by "hangnout" himself :) . My Son loves it.
Thank You again hangnout :) . We used it this past weekend at Boxwell for the Fall Cub and Family. This time we set up bunk bed style with CJ7 hanging above me. He had a blast in it.
I cannot take credit for my Son's hammock. Hangnout made it for 2sticks and when she outgrew it they were nice enough to send it to my boy. When he outgrows it I will do the same and put...
I will have to pull my Son's out that "hangnout and 2sticks" gave to him last fall and get the measurements off of it for you.
Here's a picture of it ( he was 6 when these pictures were taken )
My Son last fall with our dog Blue hangin' out on the back patio.

Hello and Welcome from Smyrna, TN :)
Your Welcome :)
I use a Singer regular point 80/11 ( style 2020 ) needle with Gutermann Sew-All thread.
If you have a Joann's close by you can pick up Gutermann "Sew-All" Thread in a 1000 meter spool : http://www.joann.com/gutermann-sew-all-thread-1000-m-1094-yds-/prd13385/
Velcro has a tendency to rub a hole or weak spot in the hammock material. Just food for thought

Here is where Nom@d made a underquilt out of a M1942 sleeping bag. I know it's not what your looking for but it might be a start.
Try a new regular point needle ( not a ball point ) with a little larger eye to let the thread slip through easier.
I hope that helps :)
Hello and Welcome from Middle TN. :) Most of my Family lives in Athens, AL and I spent many a fall/winter night Coon Hunting around Hartselle :)
Dawn dish soap and hand wash the area, hang to dry. Safe enough to remove a oil slick from a baby seal and safe enough to remove oil based neosporin from your hammock :)
The link I clicked was broken so I embedded it here for you :)
