No bid deal on the zipper. If I get, OK, if not, well that's OK too.
Well, I hope it works out for you,
So Cannibal, does that mean you are going to make it to Hot Springs? We missed you at Blackie's event.
Well, that and not having to thread the strap through the ring buckles each time, too.
Sounds like the ones you found are considerably heavier than the ones most of us use. The Camp Nano is...
CC Buckles are great and work fine. But if you pull them as tight as it seems Grizz is pulling them then they would be nearly impossible to loosen. There must be a little slack in order to loosen...
And I worry about a plain old knot not getting loose.
I tried the Lark Head on my rings but it did not seem to keep the rings aligned with each other well enough to eliminate a slippage problem. I changed to the Anchor Hitch and don't have that problem.
I remembered you saying that and almost mentioned it. But, hey, I had to chime back in here just to celebrate my 300th post.
You pull the support straps pretty tight with a structural ridgeline. The CC Buckles are difficult to impossible to loosen when pulled tight. Someone here even had to cut a strap because they...
Wow, 400+ entries in a single thread! Just shows you how popular the Ring Buckle System is. I love mine. And the CC Buckle system works great too, just better on a hammock without a structural...
FWIW, you might even be able to use just one biner or one ring as long as you put that slippery half hitch in it. Might be worth trying.
And you can also leave the strap threaded through the rings which you can't do if you have to thread the strap through a loop first. That makes it much more convenient and quicker.
Welcome Grizz, good post and pictures. That's almost exactly what I've done except my line is not doubled and I used an anchor hitch to connect to the rings. Good pictures illustrating the HH knot,...
Looks like a clone of the CAMP Nano biner.
I was doing that before I got the biners. I'm using the straps from Ed Speers and I was noticing that they were beginning to get a little fuzzy around the loop in the strap. I think the biners...
OK, I looked up "Mephistopheles" on Wilikpedia. Which of these definition relates:
1. "He who shuns the light."
2. "Pungent, sulphurous, stinking, and noxious exhalation from the ground."...
I was wondering about your trail name too, not that I'm any less confused now than before. I guess I'll have to look up "Mephistopheles".
After you adjust the straps through the rings just tie a simple slippery half hitch right up against the ring. It takes no more than a couple seconds, provides security and unties with just a pull...
Well, 35 cents/ft does make more sense and is more inline with the other prices. But...it is not what they have listed on their website.
You're thinking backwards. The 550 # rated Spectra costs 90 cents, the 725# Spectra costs $1, and the 1000# Spectra costs 90 cents. But the 1500# spectra only costs 35 cents. Go figure.
I wonder why the lighter weight-rated Spectra costs more than the heavier weight-rated Spectra.
My closest REI is 5.5 hours away too (in Atlanta) but is directly on my way to the mountains if I'm going hiking on the AT, Smokies or other trail in the Appalachians. So, I always have to stop in...
I do like the buckle and strap system much better than the Tree Huggers. I've been following the ring and carabiner idea for a while and really like the simplicity. I think the carabiners will put...
That could be an option and definitely reduce stress on the strap that I noticed by just threading it through it's own loop. But if the ring weight is comparable to the biner weight I would go with...
The fuzzing at the webbing loop has not been a problem so far. Just something to keep an eye on.
This is what I've been doing too since I got the buckles. I have noticed that the strap is getting a little fuzzy at the loop and it can cinch down pretty tight some times, making it a little more...
