Lets do a re-run. :)
I guarantee Scottish hammock Nirvana, there are 7 more years of finding amazing hang spots.
How's it going James?
How's it going Dutch?

Hi Donna,
Pm sent.
I recognized the wood burner instantly as Estonian. :)
You have some amazing setups in the woods. The forests of Oandu and Cape Purekkari were favourite when we visited. Hanging next to the frozen...
My white bug net looks like I'm hanging in a wedding dress pulled out of the trash. :)
I do notice that white attracts bugs less than black. Moot point though, its a bug net.
I used some...
I have a 1.0 dbl (32 g/sm) parachute nylon hammock(DIY) that's seen over a 100 nights sleeping at home, not a sign of stretch on it anywhere and I'm 220lb. 2 nights in a new 1.0 single and all is...
Overgunned on the bottom gets my vote too.
I use a lighter layer on top, beefier on the bottom usually.
I've slept quite happily at 20f with no top insulation and a big UQ, wouldn't want to do...
Silnylon is exceedingly slippy. If you pinch it really hard between your fingers and there is still almost zero friction, it's sil.
It sounds like you have lightly PU coated showerproof fabric....
Hi mate!
Welcome to the forum. :)
Along with the above, a strong magnet sits on my sewing machine bed as a seam guide.
Irwin snap knife blades too, incredibly sharp and don't wear out.
I find it punches above it's weight for ratings. My -30 sleeping bag is good down to -40.
I concur with Boston and I'd say the warmth for the loft is equivalent to decent down.
There is a nice easy test for ensuring the needle is sharp enough. If the point will dig into your fingernail easily without slipping at all, it's sharp enough.
I'd ring around the manufacturers, they may have some prototype line left over or know where there is a little.
As above, I'm not aware of any hitting the market before.
I've seen them leak as much as any of my unsealed tarps.
Is yours an older tarp Bubba? Maybe other factors have affected the water repellency like thread size, needle size and thickness of the...
+1. There are a few of the more enlightened campsites that allow it. If you search on BCUK, you should find some threads relating to it. I have no direct experience as I always wild camp.
8 ft does my corner tie outs even on a good slope. For porch mode, I just extend the lines to surrounding trees with some 1mm kite dyneema cut into 6ft lengths.
Welcome to HF buddy from your lurkdom. :)
For silicone that struggles to set, washing it with clean water often helps it go off. It washes the acetic acid out of the sealant and allows moisture in.
Unfortunately, that name has been taken by Shewies version from a year or so ago; http://www.bushcraftuk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=101926
I washed a particularly dirty Montbell down bag last year. It was soaked in body oils, quite minging. The first wash in soap didn't clear the oils (soap isn't much good at shifting oil or grease) so...
A group of us all used white tarps on our last winter arctic jaunt. All commented on how light and airy it felt underneath.
My new winter tarp has a silver internal coating which also gives a lot...
Great stuff HM. :)
I've had many happy a night in the DD travel and also under the 3x3 tarp.
This may give you a little faith in trusting the channel; I've done well over 150 nights in the...
Poop hammock = pants not pulled down quick enough where I come from. :)
Thanks Harstad. :)
I'm watching yr.no like a hawk still. It's seriously cold up there. Happy days.
Praying for your high pressure to hang around for a few more weeks. There doesn't seem to be...
My biggest winter UQ is 60" wide, I love it. The high sides block lots of drafts and it never shifts out of place in the night.
It wouldn't work with a WBBB though. :)
I use this knot regularly, with dyneema and paracord. Very rarely has it jammed for me, even solid with ice. It does jam sometimes with twisted cord, but that's not pertinent to this.
I find...
Cracking work. :)
I really like everything about that, lovely bit of stitching on the tie-outs too.
Well done that man. :)
As above, always.
A buried stick and the adjustable guyline knot works for me in the winter.
I tie a variation of it but both work.
Thanks Dabberty. :)
1100g and around 1.25-1.5l /a bit over a quart.
I lost 2 aluminium Fig 9's in one weekend when I first used them, the shaft bent and closed the teeth up.
Used on a tarp ridgeline-the first folded after a gust of wind and the second snagged a twig...
As soon as the snow melts and no-one wants one 'til the autumn. :D
Thanks Bigsilver
:) In the future, maybe! I'll be sure to post up a TR Cryothewild.
Thanks Brad. ;) I have edited the post, I actually used Polyester kick tape, not bias tape as I...
Basically, yes. :) I don't know your US brands (although I know Nikwax ship to the US).
Nikwax TX direct is a parafin wax emulsion with zirconium salts-lots of companies in the world make similar...
That's great info Harstad. :)
The trip across Ovre must have been fantastic, I'd love to do it.
Ovre-Anarjokka is calling for me to do it in the warmer months, a crossing of Sarek too. It's...
Congrats on the new hang record Shug. :shades:
I was watching the forecasts from over the pond with masssive envy. That's some serious cold you dealt with from the hammock. I reckon you've blown...
Nikwax TX direct spray will add some water resistance but won't alter the colour.
I have a down jacket that lost its dwr through lots of washing, the TX direct has done a better job than the...
Thanks Bill, glad you like it :) It'll get a good testing for sure.
Murphys's law dictates I'll pick the wrong valley.
Is it a better chance of cold going south from Karasjok...
Hi Harstad. :)
I've been watching the weather like a hawk for Norway on yr.no for months now.
You've had a hell of an autumn the same as us. Shug is out breaking records, and were...
Thanks Onfire :)
Cost was £35 for the fabric, it took 2 full days to get it together though as everything is re-inforced. It's the longest tarp build I've done.
Most of it was UK sourced but...
Thanks DK. :)
Cheers Chickenwing. :)
I much prefer my full length underquilts to my shorter ones but for backpacking, the shorter lighter quilt gets packed.
It's still very comfy, more comfortable than CCF and packs down far smaller....
Congrats on the new PB Shug :)
Sorry to see you get some battle scars. I got frostnip on my knuckles last winter, they run a bit colder than the rest of my hand now. An old foot freezing leaves...
Cheers Silver :)
Cheers Thumbs
Thanks Tbuck
Thanks Boulder. It's erring on overly-beefy. :)
Trip report will be posted. :)
Thanks 4estTrekker. It should come in at 1300g with all the lines (I use paracord in deep cold on the tie-outs...
I made a winter tarp a month ago for an upcoming arctic trip to have a another crack at my low temp PB and thought I'd share
I've always been impresses by the Finnish Loue shelters and how they...
I think it started years ago.
Congrats on your new PB!
It's a buzz to get down that low in complete comfort. :)
I was looking at the national weather for the states last night with some -45f temps due, someone has to be...
I've seen this too. Not a problem until the heavens open. :)
It was running through the stitch lines-my friend spent the next 7 days with a plastic sheet over the hammock to stop the leaky ridge...
I recommend taking some more under-insulation too.
Another CCF mat or pad and you should be fine with that set-up though.
I mainly use Pertex 4 for my hammocks. It feels like silk, wears well and dries very quickly. I also use parachute nylon and this comes uncoated sometimes.
I don't consider it necessary, though...
Pertex 4 DIY gathered end 11 footer for me.
It feels like silk and wears very well.
