Lovely spot, and a great photo.
I was not expecting a saturday delivery. So that was kinda a bonus early delivery.
Anyway, it arrived this AM.
Looks very warm. I can't wait to test it out (maybe next weekend).
Apparently they tried to deliver it on Saturday, I was home all day so the did not try very hard.
yep I think we have chosen a winning combo.
Pretty soon all the cool kids will be getting this combo.
That does look slick!
Thank you for the pics.
I look forward to it arriving at my door.
The green-macaw green combo looks great.
Makes me wonder if my Macaw green-glacier combo was the right choice or not. Have to wait till it is in my hands to be sure.
Thanks for the replies, I have managed to find some good information on the internet about the bears and what I need to do for the different regions.
Will have to put together a plan for what to...
Hi Westcoasters
I am from New Zealand and have done a reasonable amount of camping (not so much from my hammock, but working on that), I plan to travel with my hammock/fly/sleeping bag/underquilt...
Just ordered my green underquilt, looks like a great colour.
Phase 2 of my trip us underway. But due to a recent cyclone most of the places are inaccessible. And being apirl things have turned very wintery. I have hsd a couple of cold nights in the hammock...
How did I miss that. Silly me. Thanks for the posts.
Answer:
20f = 12x7 inch stuff sack
0f = 9x12 inch
Stuff sacks are sized so they fit in with a little effort but can be compressed more with...
I was wondering about the pack sizes of the zepelin underquilts, I was thinking of getting a 20f one, but if the 0f is not much larger packed I may be tempted. I am not so worried about weight but...
I went through the same, I have now made a cheapie DIY sleeping bag modded underquit. I am not sure how cold I will be able to manage with it, but pretty sure it should be ok for 3 seasons.
I am...
Same for me. I really enjoyed the process. Learning some new skills as a bonus.
It did take me a few tries to get them right, but that is the joy. And pulling them apart and improving them was...
I have been making some myself and found it very enjoyable. I made them with 3mm, 2mm and some with 1.5 dyneema.
The 2&3mm were easy. The 1.5 was tricky but so tight and looks so clean. It only...
How were the temperatures? I froze my butt off a month or so ago near Waiouru.
Welcome from Auckland, or just down the road.
I hope you have a very warm bag or an under quilt, my first few night hangs were very cold without a UQ.
Fire Extinguisher is required for some of the places I want to ride, it is heavy, but not hugely bulky so not a huge issue (not to mention the insurance factor, it is nice to know it is there)....
I notice in your gear you have 2x tubes (I assume the red IRC bags are tubes).
I only carry a 21 inch tube as this can be used on both front and rear(short term), one less thing to carry.
I am impressed with how little stuff you carry motocamping, I always end up with way too much gear, and that becomes a packing nightmare (not to mention the gear weight doing bad things to the bike...
If you check out the link in my top post you will see quite a few pics, I shall be adding more mid April as I attempt to complete my holiday.
Thanks for the offer but I think I am OK for the moment. I plan to upgrade this one to a down bag in the near future, but want to try some winter hangs with my thermal rest sleeping mat in the uq and...

A very chilly evening hang (no underquilt -silly me) near Waiouru in the North Island of New Zealand.
Welcome fellow motohanger.
After playing around with the woollen blanked and finding it not that warm (even compared to a synthetic sleeping bag slung badly) I pulled it to bits and used the mounts/shock cord to build v2.

Not sure about the pad thickness (maybe 3-4cm?), but it is a downlined self inflating one, I have winter camped with it and found it warm enough sleeping on the ground in a tent.
I think if I am...
Thanks for the welcome guys :)
I am located in Auckland most of the time, but I do tend to get around on the motorbike a whole lot, so the entire country is my backyard.
I am heading back to the...
Hi All
I got into this hanging business a year ago when a mate got me a parachute hammock and having some nice palm trees to hang under at my house I spent more time in it than I probably should...
