We welcome people in t****.
If you hang downwind of the large campfire, the few bugs are just bits of ash.
An outlet in the pavilion has been powered every year I have attended.
There are limits to what I'll do to stay warm.
I will be there. I missed this event last year. Still deciding what to bring. Update soon.
Oh, come on! I'll bet your orthopedist told you that you would be dancing about 30 minutes after waking up from the operation.
Everyone is welcome. T**t and all.
Hickery,
I am glad to help with the organizing. Just let me know how.

I planned to arrive today, but missed that. Will be there Friday morning early.
EARLY!!
I am bringing the apple cider, also cinnamon sticks, cloves, and tea.
Don't even bother testing without using a new needle and new thread. Old thread does not work well, and a dull needle will not help you at all. It's tempting to just try it with what may be in it...
Model number or name? There are some serious sewing machine users here. Details will help.
I plan to attend, especially if I am still unemployed (retired).
Well, CB posted to the Gorge Rat forum this morning, so he is definitely doing better. He sounds in good spirits.

If anyone is interested in returning to Grayson Highlands in a week or two, just comment here, or send me a PM. The porta-potty will be there for another couple of weeks, I think.
Marci said the GHSP phones and internet would probably be out until Monday. If we want to meet up there soon, we should communicate with the rangers first. Don't know when that will be possible. Who...
Good advice, Slowhike. I'm really sorry you can't make it. You'll be missed. It's a good thing that you have trained so many of us in advanced tarp deployment.
I am bringing my spare Amsteel. At...
I am bringing extra tarp cordage.
EDIT: The emerald ash borer only affects Ash trees, but all of NC and VA are potentially infested. My area was not on the quarantined map the last time I checked.
1) Park at the group site. The people hiking to Thomas Knob on Thursday are parking in the backpacker's lot for just that night. The AT is closer from there anyway.
2) Camp store will be closed....
I had a blast! Lovely time, with great people and not-so-great weather. We have lots of fun whether it rains or not.
Thanks to Hotlips and Kingsford for the organizing, the massive kitchen, rain...
I have not heard that the rangers there were especially difficult. Just use tree straps of decent width to protect the bark.
I may be able to rig up an inverter and some cables. Let me see what I can arrange..
Batten down the hatches!
Where were you hanging? I may get back to GHSP some day soon.
Some of our group decided to use hammock stands to make use of otherwise wasted space. The park built these bizarre pads all over the group camping area. I think they are intended for t*nts. Gravel...
The usual suspects stayed late, to clean up the site and take down Son of Big Blue. We had less than the usual amount of stuff to clean up, both "donated" food and stuff left inadvertently. Also must...
Well, Cakes, with newbies, we'll wrap them in wool and give them warm baked potatoes to put by their toes in the hammock for those chilly nights.
Cakes,
I am bringing two of the little Ultimate Hang cards. I will also print a few copies of the larger image, since Derek gave his permission.
We have had a good time in the past, even with...
Wow! That sounds great. Slowhike are staying over, leaving Monday. I am having some interesting personal transitions, and have started to note that they seem to coincide with lunar events.
I am just...
I will have my BD hiking poles with me. You are welcome to try them out. I have had them a long time.
I can't figure out how to get Google maps to show GPS coordinates, but here is the address that works for directions.

I had a few problems with pads. A one-piece pad which is thick enough to be effective is large and bulky. If the pad does not compress underneath you, it insulates well, but it's not compressible....
We had tarps.

I think we learned quite a bit about tarps. I learned that I have to get much better at staking out my Old Man Winter tarp. It got quite...
Waterproof on top. Breathable below.
Always.
Spray a water hose on your rig. Do you want it to fill up and crash to the ground?
I've got an Old Man Winter, and love it. Any large tarp will do the job. Just make sure you get something with doors on it for the best cold weather use.
This is a very good idea. If you use a second hammock to protect your UQ, just leave a bit of slack in-between. It's more important to have the wind barrier close than it is to have it in contact....
I plan to attend.
I hope Slowhike can meke it, and of course, the girls Lo and Laura.
If I have time, I will mod a Kelty down bag to serve as a top quilt. The K-Mart fleece I used in the fall hang...
A few months ago, I was at Wally World shopping for arrows. The 32" aluminum arrows with field tip were $4.50 each. In camo, they were $5.50 each. Go figure.
I don't think that wool is better than a synthetic polyester base layer.
If this person who accuses you of having Gear Acquisition Syndrome has more pair of shoes than you do, you should reconsider the situation.
Insultex does not compress much, but it works really well. If you can stand the bulk, it delivers warmth. The only question I have is about your tarp. The 20 degree F bag is okay. I just wonder about...
Congratulations!
Just when does it warm up in Ontario?
My most recent gathered-end hammock is polyester fabric. I will weigh it and post the results. I think it is similar in thickness to the Grand Trunk Ultralight I have, which is a polyester fabric...
What about beads, at intervals, strung on the Amsteel. Each bead could be tied to a location on the ridgeline by simply making a thread loop through the amsteel to keep it in place. For each bead,...
You, sir, are a smartass. It's better than being a dumbass by far.
I would try making shorts of tyvek, but the members here keep talking about kilts, so I'm having trouble making up my mind...
Cool beans, dude. You are one of us. The cottage vendor guys are pretty cool. I know a few of them to talk to face-to-face. Really nice people. As Pgibson said, it is a really busy time of the year. ...
I've got an Egyptian cotton pup tent I got from L.L. Bean in the 1970s. Anyone want it? The floor is PU coated. There is just a little mold on the canvas parts. First offer gets it!
Recycling can...
Just threaten to sue them. Your sleep is undoubtedly being affected, no doubt your love life as well. It's a lifestyle choice.
They need so see their names in the papers.
My sit pad is a FedEx tyvek large shipping envelope, cut open to make a butterfly shape. I radiused the corners. It keeps my shorts from getting wet when I stop to sit on a rock while resting or...
