What is the color?
Interestingly enough the improved asymm/diamond shape is what I want. I have a HH ultralight asymm classic and I love the asymm style fly, although I have never had to use it in any kind of rain...
I was wondering if anybody has gotten their hands on HH Survivor Multicam Camo Asymm? Their site mentions that "The rainfly is a new larger catenary rainfly of heavy duty U.S. made 70D ripstop...
I like this one!! Hang everywhere!!
Are you wanting to specifically trade?
There is always another trip. Plus if you find you like a setup more than the other then thats a good excuse to get new stuff!!
I have been looking for this type of review for quite some time. How do you like the camo cuben? How has it been holding up? What thickness is the cuben?
I hear the same things. Most people say they wouldn't use one because they consider or assume coverage would be lacking. However I have not seen a lot of reports or pictures of this style in wet...
I like my skins. The two main reasons are 1.) Set up is easy as I just have the compact hammock to deal with 2.) Once i figured out the most efficent way to fit my hammock into the skins, breakdown...
Genious! I like the ingenuity!
I was wondering the same thing. I recently was setting up my HH in the dark and somehow ended up putting it on shiny side up and the ridgeline of the fly was perpendicular to my hammocks ridgeline....
I like my asymm rain fly. I know it doesn't provide the most coverage but its shape looks really cool. Also my thermarest pad. The insulation makes a huge difference.
My first few hangs I only had my sleeping bag. Needless to say I was a little chilly. FL during fall. A buddy of mine uses a thermarest pad so I decided I would give it a try. That extra bit of...
I just my casio pathfider watch. It is one of those ABC (altimitor, barometer, and compass) kinds. The thermometer works good. I just clip it to my pack either with a carabiner or with the watchband...
About two weeks ago some friends and went on a quick hike (about 3-4mi) on the Florida Trail in NWFL. It was awesome and we picked a spot just a little off trail on the bank of the Alaqua Creek. We...
I have a HH and I love it. Although it is the only hammock I have experience with. I have a friend who did a bike trip (bicycle) across Florida with his HH and had no complaints (which is why I got...
When I do my initial set up and go for the first sit(aka the test sit) I am always a little cautious. I have used my hammock a handfull of times now, maybe 5, and on at least 2-3 off the occasions my...
I don't know if cuben is what you are specifically looking for, but have you looked at the multicam pattern from ripstopbytheroll?
The multicam from ripstop is 17.50/yd. 7 yards is $122 and 8 yards is $140. It is all about the licensing for the multicam.
With the cold snap coming over the next few days, is anybody going to brave the low temps and test their gear?
Thats what I had in mind for the awning part. I would like to construct something a little more "packable" but that is a good start! Thanks for the link!
True! But it doesn't look as cool! :)
I have been contemplating making something to mount on the tree that can hang my gear. I imagine it as a half umbrella "awning" that has a fold or roll down cover to keep things dry and a few hooks...
Nice! It looks really good. I was also considering this same material (as we discussed in a previous post) what was your final cost of materials and labor if you don't mind me asking?
I am also looking for a larger rain fly. The asym fly that came with my HH I feel is minimal at best. I have not had to use it yet but I anticipate unless set up just right there will be some water...
any info on the external pole mod mouseskowitz?
I have seen other posts in HF where the string method is referred to. I was wondering how you get the curve without altering the strings position. Did you find the spray paint provided minimal...
"If you are patient, you can pick up lots of used gear at great prices on the forum. Most members take very good care of their gear. All the used gear I have bought on the forum has been exactly as...
Coldest that I've done here in NWFL is about 40 degrees. I did that with my Mountain Hardware Lamina 45 and the sunshield from my truck. No TQ UQ or tarp. Toes were a little chilly but nothing really...
Looks good! Did you use the string method to get the cat cut template?
You might check out Ponce De Leon Springs, Vortex Springs, or Falling Waters in NW FL.
You could try http://www.floridastateparks.org/ and search for camp grounds. The only down side to a "formal" camp site is you often have to make reservations well in advance. Plus this time of year...
I absolutely agree. It's sort of like on the job training. You don't get to perform "solo" until you have shown you are knowledgeable about the subject. Plus there are many other sites if you are...
I picked up a thermarest at bass pro for about 30 bucks. Made a huge difference in warmth.
Good idea Donig, that's what I like about the forum. Lots of neat ideas to solve problems!
Multicam cuben will cost you your first born son.
Thanks Floridahanger. I'll look into it!
I saw bigred's. Looks pretty good and the pattern doesn't repeat to nociable if i recall correctly.
I like the idea of mesh skins for the hammock storage. I seems that if you wrapped up a wet tarp in the mesh other things in your pack would also be wet. A few dollars more and you can have cuben...
Thanks for the info Violent Green. I don't think I will have to worry about freezing tempratures to much here in NW Florida.:shades: I mainly wondering as I do take frequent kayak camping trips and...
Is cuben fiber suitable for making a dry bag with?
ripstop's multicam also costs a whole lot more.
Nite Ize makes reflective rope, http://www.niteize.com/product/Reflective-Rope.asp Also I have used chemlights and hung them mid way on the guy line. As a bouns it makes finding my hammock easier!
Hello from Northwest Florida. I got into hammock camping from a friend who used a HH while on his cross state bike ride, Pensacola to Key West. I got one eariler in the year and went on my first...
Ahhhhh whats up dude! I logged on today and guess who's post was on the home page?
I've seen your tarp and it looks great. Do you have the process you used for DIY silicone process, or a link to the process you used? Also in your opinion, or fact, would the epsilon be more durable...
good to know, thanks for the info!
Yea I did some googling and found it. I'm new to the DIY and hammock forum world. Still trying to figure it all out!
I know the WBBB has a "pocket" you can slide a pad or other insulation into. Has anyone sewn a pocket into a HH or other hammock to slide a thermarest pad into?
I am researching my first DIY rain fly. I am wanting to do a hex fly with cat cuts in multicam. So far I have found two types and sources for the multicam. The first is from ripstopbytheroll.com. It...
