I hope we're near the end of all the flooding & such, because I'm chomping at the bit.
Are you more interested in the wilderness/hills part or the less challenging part?

For your size, a single should be fine.
That all sounds pretty awesome. And painful.
But mostly awesome.
If you love tinkering, you have plenty at hand now.
Welcome to the forum. Sounds like some sweet sweet hammock gear should round out your collection nicely.
Welcome aboard.
Welcome and don't sweat it. My hiking partner brings along this... beast.
It's the only one capable of keeping up with me.
Looking forward to seeing this one.
When it's cold enough for me to want to dig in, I favor just putting something on my head. That way when I have to make midnight exits my head is still cozy.
I've only been on it 3 times so far, but I'm hopping to get back to it. About the same story for the Natchez Trace scenic trail starting around Ridgeland.
Welcome to the forum.
Welcome aboard. Originally from DFW myself.
Good call.
With this little cold/wet snap, I haven't been able to take a good guess at dates yet. The way the weather's changing, there not be much advance notice, but I'll post to this thread...
Welcome aboard.
Sounds like the kind of problem you want.
I see I missed a couple of things.
Well-maintained? Most people with recent experience seem to say it's in good shape, but this seems to vary based on all the expected variables, being near the...
I have only hiked a dozen or so miles, so I can't speak to the entire experience.
The southeast 16 miles or so is generally "wilderness" with a bunch of elevation changes but with a trail I had no...
An XLC is very likely to be my second hammock. Looks pretty sweet.
Welcome aboard. I'm a (DFW) Texas native but rarely make it back out that way.
Welcome aboard.
I'm one of your neighbors in Mississippi and also have a doublenest. If the forest trees are as close together in LA as they are in MS, the short length of the doublenest may serve...
I do something similar, but I step heel-to-toe with my giant feet. First few times I hung the hammock, I found that 10+ steps on level ground is basically guaranteed to work. A couple more steps is...
About this time last year a friend persuaded me to take up backpacking. Since I had no gear aside from what was in my hurricane survival kit, I needed to start nearly from scratch.
Weighing the...
My third full night in a hammock found me cold and wet at 3 a.m. with no dry clothing. I was in the middle of a national forest and had to just suck it up until it was light enough to hike out.
I've hung my doublenest in spaces that tight just fine.
I've got a big one that envelops my hammock. It's okay.
I like mine, although I've only gotten to test it in its proper setting once so far (in the few weeks I've had it).
When I bought it I had found almost no online discussion about it, so I had...
Yeah, that part is kind of technically interesting for a Mississippi hiking trail.
Depending on weather, I hope to get out more than once. :)
I've cleared 4-day weekends throughout March so I can be ready whenever weather permits me to hit the trails before April floods the creek too badly.
As much as possible, I aim to bang out the...
Permethrin is so needed down here in Mississippi that I use it even though I have cats, to whom it is deadly until it dries.
Any idea how much of a headache it is to keep that much gear safely...
ENO Ignitor, chosen because I could get it in time for a last minute trip, but also because it looked like it would be more useful through more of the Mississippi hot year before I have to stow it...
Top quilt and pad may be easier to tackle than underquilt and ???
Come back and tell tall tales when you do!
I've never owned a tent or sleeping bag, although I only tried a hammock just last year when a friend persuaded me to take up backpacking.
When I was younger, I would just haul a big sheet of...
I hauled my new KAQ New River Long 3S UQ on a Black Creek basin backpacking trip for the first time this past weekend. (Same trip from my similarly titled post about my top quilt. I just now got...
I have tried just a fleece sleeping bag (basically a liner) without sewing it in or anything, and any benefit seemed negligible. Even a wisp of a breeze passed right through it.
Thanks.
I did consider a few of theirs, and liked the serape conversion aspect of the Sierra Stealth. It's just not the one I chose.
I tried to articulate it in my original post, but had difficulty.
The system used for the foot box employs a combination of velcro, two metal snaps, and a draw string to pull the very end into a...
I've seen a few people ask about these in threads before, and this is for whoever searches for it next time.
Last weekend a friend picked a spot for us to go for an overnighter in Black Creek...
Sweet, thanks.
Thanks again. My friend had attempted it once or twice earlier in the year after some flooding, as I understand it.
I hope to take a crack at the wilderness trail in March, which will hopefully...
End of Sept I went from Janice Landing toward Fairley and passed through the Red Hills on that side. It's much cushier NW from Janice Landing toward Moody's.
A friend of mine questions whether...
If someone already has a hammock, pad, and sleeping bag, they just need to give it a go one night in the back yard. That's enough to get the basic idea.
Thanks. I believe you're right.
I have in mind to gps track that entire trail in sections and haven't made it that far into the wilderness side yet.
I'm generally down for a hang.
Thanks a bunch.
Anyone know if the hiking trail is accessible from Cypress Creek Landing?
Just started hammocking last spring, done a few overnighters and aim to continue. Sometimes I backpack with a friend in a tent.
Saying "hi" and such.
Too long-winded, I know.
