My daughter and I are considering this memorable trip. She is planning to thru hike the AT next year, so this may be the last prep hike for her prior to an early nobo start. She's trying to go UL,...
Fabulous! I am so ready for some cold nights.
We may join the FHT hike. My daughter, Rebecca, will be with me. We are going to hike the whole next week, as she is prepping for an AT thru hike next spring.
I see a 22 mile loop including that trail, with the start near our campsite. I might just do that loop, starting Wed PM or Thurs AM. If anyone knows much about this trail, or if you want to join me,...
Pics? If your connector pole bowed up, the whoopie slings had to be pulling down hard, maybe attached to far out towards the end? Pics would help.
It turns out I'll be hiking and hanging on the AT this weekend. I just need to get some miles under my feet, so I'll be joining some of the NB thru hikers who are starting out. I really don't care if...
I'm uncertain if I'll be joining the Cohutta hang next weekend.
So who else is planning to be at Panther Creek Falls on Friday night? If no one besides me, I might be in the area but not yet at the falls.
Just keep in mind that bears will bring down poorly hung bear bags anywhere. Some camp neighbors between Neels and Tesnatee gaps lost half their food to a bear on my last trip in that trail section.
I'm looking forward to this trip, and hope to see you and more there on Friday.
So, are we camping at the top or the bottom of Panther Creek Falls? I plan on hiking in via East Cowpen, which will end at the top of the falls. I'm also planning to arrive Friday afternoon. Anyone...
I'm in. Sounds great.
Welcome from over in Augusta.
Welcome from Augusta GA.
Woody to Neels is about 10.5 miles. Another 6.5 miles to Hogpen. Camping along the trail is OK, but campfires are limited in some areas. Last time I think fires were not permitted between Slaughter...
If you don't want to hike back over the same trail, you'd need transportation back to your start. Or you might be able to stay Thurs night at the Hiker Hostel in Dahlonega and have them take you to...
March 23/24 is the Cohutta backpacking hang, and Easter is the following weekend, then Burrel's Ford in early April. Lots of hanging opportunities coming soon. I'm not sure how many would attend. My...
Most of us have extra hammocks, and maybe some extra tarps and pads and such. But you are certainly welcome to join us in a tent. I have an ENO hammock and tarp I could loan you, but I'm not...
I slept quite comfortably last night. But I can see a summer UQ in my near future. I might have to see if any local stores carry poncho liners.
Add one more. Built today. Ready for testing.
I'm hoping to be able to join in on this hike.

I, too, prefer the potluck on Saturday, with people arriving at different times on Friday. I hope to get there with some daylight remaining on Friday.
I'm probably going to try baking some Mexican cornbread in my Dutch oven, since I think Junebugdawn has desserts covered. It should go well with your stew.

I am SO ready for this weekend. I'm not packed yet, but that's because I'll be hanging outside tonight. You know, one has to recheck that their gear will keep them warm enough on a cold night....
I downloaded the trail map and rules. No restrictions to specific days. Looks like a 6 mile single track mtb/hiking trail, a 3.5 mile wide multiuser trail, and a 2 mile hiking trail.
I'm thinking about bringing my mountain bike, as there seems to be a 5 mile single track trail in the park. Anyone else?

I'm in. Thanks
I absolutely LOVE hot dogs cooked over a fire! Yummy.
I'd love one. I'm hoping you're drawing 8PM your time zone. :-)
For me, I'd still get the Superfly. If take the $aving$ from the MJ doors to put toward a significantly smaller (summer) tarp.
Or combine both and just get a CF tarp. :o
As a Superfly owner, I'd vote for the larger one, the MJ. But I LOVE winter camping. Also from GA, and plan to be at the Raven Cliffs hang in early January.
Try the spreadsheet again.
Welcome from Augusta GA.
See if this works for you.

Welcome from Augusta GA. I plan to be at the Raven Cliffs hang that 2ply mentioned. I hope you can join us.

Welcome from Augusta GA. Sounds like you've had a good start.
Welcome from Augusta GA. I might see you this weekend if you're hanging at Bussey Point.
I'll let you know. My son and I might be up for a night or two on the AT, but I'm not sure if his gear its up for winter backpacking. I'd have to convince him to hang at least once before then to see...
I use snake skins on my tarp, always, because they make it so much faster and easier to set up and take down. It helps keep the cords from tangling, and helps me center the tarp over the hammock...

My strongest memories of campouts are from those that had the most stormy weather. Just sayin'.
BTW, I'm waiting on a wet night for a backyard hang just to test out some gear (a new tarp that is...
I'm in Augusta, but love to hang out in the mountains (NGA, WNC).
I will plan to be there, with my son Ben.

I went by the local library and picked up the annual park pass for my trip this weekend.
Welcome to the forums. I'm presently hanging in North Georgia in the Coosa Backcountry, but home is Augusta. Presently hanging in a DIY tablecloth hammock, but I have a WBBB DL 1.1 on order.
Welcome from Augusta GA
I've done something similar with mine. I have a JRB Greylock 4 UQ, which slides along a shock cord. It already had loops at each of the four corners, so I add a short piece of shock cord at the...
