Great looking underquilt!!! This style intrigues me greatly so thanks for posting this for me to steal ideas from!!
Alright guys payment received and it is sold!!!
I have an almost brand new 4 season quilt for sale. It includes suspension. Manufactured in late 2012 by Jacks R Better. I have only used it on one trip and it worked beautifully, but uqs just aren't...
Well, thank you guys for the great help and info :) And the reason I would be getting rid of this under quilt is to possibly go back to the ground. The more I get out into the mountains I'm always...
A superfly is really good for those times that you think it won't rain but it may
Pads are the only way to go in my opinion. I'm getting rid of my uq
If only I had remembered this last night!!! It got pretty chilly...
On the ways of stability, the more diagonal you lay, the more stable you are
Those ponchos have always seemed awfully small to me...
Looks great!!!
My grand old story is pretty tame. Was hiking by myself on a cold and snowy winter morning, when a blue grouse jumped from 3 feet away. Both the dog and I had to take a breather
I just stay away from the snake skins and stick with the good old stuff sack. It works wonders for me.
That sounds so amazing to have after a long day hiking
A light gray looks best to me because nothing in nature is pure white
I just love my Noah's Tarp 12 in the ways of protection and durability
The only thing I can suggest to you is just contact hammock gear and have then replace or repair it.
JRB is always my favored vendor just because they hold together really well
I would always want to have a draft collar, just because I shuffle in my sleep
This looks like a great idea to be able to have your own top quilt
I should build that hammock stand! I really do want to hammock full-time out in the woods, but I gotta get this under quilt off my hands and get a lighter one. Success is sweet and I'm starting to...
Oh yes, when I get older I am sure that the hammock will be much more attractive than the ground
Yeah, we actually have way more trees than you would think! The hang went well. I woke up about midnight with the wind and had to readjust the uq, but after that I was perfectly comfortable for the...
Welp, I'm giving it a go. Got it all set and I'm gonna sleep out. Shouldn't be too bad as it's 35 degrees outside. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/03/09/u7udy4e8.jpg
Awesome. Again a lot of info that really helped me :)
And that just cleared everything up. Very helpful. Thank you
I asked this question in General Hammock talk, then realized this is the correct place. How is a structural ridgeline set up? What are the specifics as in type of cordage and length? Thanks so much
Question on the subject of structural ridgelines. How are they rigged? Hoping to try one tonight
Currently,I do use a tarp + bivy when there are no trees. Pretty awesome
Mother of god... Most helpful piece of info I have ever read. Thank you so much for putting the time and effort into this. I've always been confused on ridge lines as well as bug nets, and this...
So here are the problems I see and have found----
Fiddle Factor
Number of Pieces of Gear
Ridgelines
Bug Protection
So yeah. Any suggestions on simplifying and narrowing that stuff down would...
A question as to lighten and simplify my load. What do you guys suggest about selling my Greylock 4 and replacing it with a lighter weight 3 season uq?
I actually don't have any problems finding trees... And where I go, there is no evidence of the current drought except on the valley floors
That's sad about no hammock. I remember we got up there and were greeted with an already set rope hammock... Also, the tree situation gets much worse up there, it may be a tarping spot instead
Griswold is pretty thin in the way of trees, I agree. Those are some good ideas to hang from a rock... Last time I was at cold lakes, i think there was a permanent hammock between the two lone trees?
I ask because I am on a really tight budget, that's all
Will my Greylock 4 be too hot for mid summer nights of sixty degrees. If so, what are some suggestions to cool it down, or get a whole new uq altogether
You guys make some great and interesting points. As it is the beginning pf the season, I will try to stick it out and figure something out.
Again, thanks to everyone who offered simple solutions
...
Since you live around here, one of the other problems I have is the low number of trees up in the Rubies. Do you just plan your trips carefully? How do you solve for it?
It all depends on where I am going... Typically I shoot for 7 miles a day, with about two hours of daylight left. Thats at 7 to 10 thousand feet by the way.
HAHAHA thanks. Would you suggest selling and/or trading my Greylock 4 for a lighter weight uq, as I probably won't be going in the winter in a hammock, but more likely a tent:)
I am in that Spring Creek :) Sadly, I will only be getting my Drivers Liscense this summer. Basically, I just feel as if I went way into the overkill buying a 0 degree JRB underquilt. I feel like if...
I am sad to report, I am going back onto the ground. Hammocks have become a hassle to me. MY underquilt is warm, but it just seems to complicated when I could just carry a tent, a pad, and a sleeping...
I'm in. Many thanks!
Thanks very much guys. I think I should be able to be a lot warmer with the improvements you suggested.
Thanks very much for the fast reply. Used the quilt last night, and I really could feel where the UQ sagged. I will try what you suggested and see how it works.
So I recently acquired a Greylock, and when I rigged it on my hammock, I noticed there was a space between my butt and the UQ. Will this affect the warmth?
Yeee-hhhaaaaaw!! Time to get rid of the DIY Sonofabitch tarp
This is awesome! Thanks for the idea
HAs anyone used the Greylock 4 in temperatures over 30 degrees?
I'll take it
