How much can the summer sock be rotated? Could I flip it 180 if I wanted to make it essentially a winter sock? Argon on top and mesh on bottom?

I've found a friend going home on the February 3-5 weekend, so I could get a ride to Huntsville or minden for Thursday night, arriving in Huntsville around 4:00. And she's going back up on the...
I would love to come, I haven't been to a group hang yet and if I'm possibly joining Chard on his Algonquin trip this summer it would be nice to meet everyone!
However the problem is I'm a...
I haven't been on HF a lot recently but I just saw this trip and I'm thinking about it. I'm a university student so I'll have the time off (if you want a younger guy to hang around), and I should be...
I've only backpacked algonquin once and it was on the western uplands trail. I did the first short loop in 3 days over a long weekend. Only thing I can offer is to skip Ramona lake. It's a pretty...
I have a similar setup with an Integral designs poncho and it works great to keep any wind blown rain off the hammock when using a smaller asym tarp

I like #21!

Unfortunately I can't get out for this hang, but hopefully I'll meet him on a future trip!

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner, I don't check the forums too often.
I'm actually back at home now, but if you could put us in touch it would be great for future hangs next year! I could...
Id love to go but I can't make it, I was jut trying to help out by giving sugestions.
As a university student in Sudbury it's pretty hard for me to get anywhere as I don't have a car... If I want...
The island site closest to canoe lake is a great site! More than enough room for a flock(?) of hammocks!
^ That's a great idea! I've never thought about that. In might start spending more time at lunch fishing or swimming so I don't have as much down time.
Welcome from the GTA!
I made an spe out if flannel that works great! I no longer have condensation issues
120 would be a steal for a silpoly kit! I remember pricing out a winter tarp a few months ago and it was costing me ~$100 CAD and that was with 1.1 2nds sil nylon
Diy the tarp! Tarps are fairly easy to diy, and the diy gearsupply patterns for a wintertarp are great!
After it's built put it in the dryer at low heat. That's should seal up any stitch holes preventing down loss.
I just pull my snakeskin to to the middle of my tarp, so basicly just cramming it in then I stuff the lines in. Not real organized lol
I use a neo air xtherm with great results! When partially inflated it is very comfertable, and it is kinda grippy so you don't slide around at all. Probably one of the best pads to uses in a hammock
Welcome from the GTA!
You would want something big enough not to compress the underquilt while in the hammock, but then it would have to be able to pack down.
Maybe if a sock was made with some shock cord compression...
Only issue I see would be that the sock is too large to effectivly work as a slug tube.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't you want the tube to compress the hammok and quilts to store them? ...
Welcome from another Ontarian!
Frost bib and vapour barriers pretty much eliminate condensation
Not the most comfertable tho
I've decided not to seam rip mine. To me the seam ripping only seems useful if you're changing the dimensions of the quilt. It allows you to keep the down, but in a smaller space meaning more loft.
I'm going to use a folding pattern with 2 quilts (found in another thread) makes it 3 layers thick in the middle and 2 on the edges. I also plan on using either snaps or a button sort of thing to be...
Ajax store had them, I picked up 2... Might pick up 2 more.
Hoping to make a 30ish degree UQ that can also be used as a top quilt.
I wonder if 3 of them would get me down to 25ish?
Hoping to find some at the Ajax costco hwy 2 and Harwood. Live really close to there so next time in there I'll check. I go multiple times per week
Just a question, what happends if you roll over onto your side? Would your breath still get caught on the fleece?
Vbl and a fleece bib to catch moisture from breath. Hardly any moisture or condensation
When I was on Ramona I had the whole lake to myself, and was on the furthest site. It was nice but not amazing, the lake access wasn't great. Very swampy and muddy. Wouldn't want to stay there during...
I enjoyed it, I thought for the most part it was a kinda boring trail... Like it was nice but there wasn't any amazing views or anything like that. I was kinda disappointed with Ramona lake... It was...
I just did a similar trip over thanksgiving weekend. Hiked to Maggie lake the first night, stopped at oake lake at the same spot you did for lunch, and Ramona lake the second night, looks like you...
Is 8x10 large enough to cover a hammock in a square pitch, or is it on a diagonal or asym sort of pitch? ^
The price^ and it's a waterproof breathable material... Gore tex like
I'm heading up to Algonquin this weekend! Where in the park where you?
I use mesh snake skins for my tarp and sil nylon snake skins for my hammock. I like the mesh for the tarp as they breath better, and the sil nylon ones to keep my hammock dry
Okay so I just did a little bit of testing, I'm going to do some more tomorrow, and take pictures.
My uqp is a 5x8 integral designs sil poncho tarp, I've added shock cord in the ends to cinch It...
First off I would love to thank Dutch for doing this great giveaway, and for being so innovative with all of your materials and bling!
For a while now I've been wanting to make my "dream tarp"...
^ will do! I don't have 2QZQ's uqp, but I'm just finishing up a DIY one that doubles as a poncho. I'll probably have it done and tested this weekend, I'll post my results.
Has anyone tried using a thicker pad? I have a therma rest neo air xtherm that inflates up to ~2".
No I haven't but I'll have to look into it now! Is it breathable?
I use it as a lightweight warm weather sleeping bag. It's a bit hard to get in and out of, especially in a hammock. The material is like tyvek just with the shiny stuff on one side. I've never had...
Oh and for inflating the sleeping mat, check out this video, it makes inflating the mat so much easier than blowing into it, or using the stuff sack
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=VGW_b-sdGRc
I normally leave mine just inflated enough so my but doesn't bottom out on the hammock (maybe 1/2 inflated) and I vent from the top. If it gets cold I might inflate it more but I don't know if it...
If you want I could get the pad out for a few pictures If that would help you understand... I'm bad at explaining things
I have a thermarest xtherm that is mummy shaped. I think it's better than the rectangle ones, as it fits on a diagonal perfectly, with the thickness of the xtherm, I think if you got the rectangle...
You could probably DIY one in the mean time with 2 cans. If I remember correctly I watched a YouTube video tutorial on how to make one. I think it was made by intense angler
Wow! That looks great!
