He doesn't have feeling below his mid chest so the comfortable lay prolly won't be much of a concern for him. As long as there isn't shoulder squeeze he should be comfortable.

There will definitely need to be assistance. I was thinking that sliding hammock down behind the back between chair and person and with a strong ridge line to hold on to and slowly back the chair out.
