+1 to the great info on HF for us newbies!
Yeah, I do like the idea of a continuous loop -> rappel ring -> whoppie sling -> tree hugger -> dutch clip setup - can you tell I'm addicted to HF?.
But first I need to find a few good trees (my...
Yeah, I should make a hammock stand or even better get out of the suburbs.
The tarp didn't look to be sagging much whilst I was inside, it held itself up from the ridge line while I was laying in...
Indeed, I was hanging about 2 inches off the ground, just in case.
My Hennessey Explorer arrived yesterday and I couldn't wait a day to put it up.
With only one large tree in my backyard, I thought I'd have a go hanging on the
deck....
Great write up. Mine hammock is sitting in a post office waiting to be picked up shortly, looking forward to my first hang!
Keeping my eye on this thread as the temps start to drop down here.
Thanks Banjoman, saves me having to repeat your mistakes. My other thought was a PLUQ or similar DIY.
Ah, pegs, of course! Thanks jerzybears.
Thinking of trying an opened up an old sleeping bag to use as an underquilt and seeing how that goes rather than buying a pad.
Great write up and pictures, thanks for sharing your experience.
Thanks Yotey, pretty mild here, be lucky to get below -5°C where I'd be hanging.
That's how I've decided to start hammocking too.
On the ground you'd be flattening the down, significantly reducing its effective insulation. Not a good idea.
I have a sleeping bag which I thought I could use. Would the zipper really cause much damage?
Subscribing so I don't have to ask the same question ;)
So if pads are uncomfortable, then there are only a few options for cheap-ish underquilts for those of us not skilled or equipped for DIY?
...
Thanks, I didn't order the Super Shelter, just found the HH on eBay. I have a simple list of things to do before I arrives then:
1. Bottom Insulation (pad or under quilt)
Thanks for the...
Im new to hammocks, but I've just ordered a HH Explorer.
What else do I need that doesn't come "in the box"?
Just finished the book, appreciate these illustrations. Thanks!

Ok guys, I've ordered a HH Explorer Zip.
I am just more comfortable knowing everything will work together. Of course, from reading these forums, I know it probably won't be long before I start...
Great feedback, thanks swingking!
Thanks Marwood, "minimal impact" is definitely what we're all going for.
G'day Swingking. Are you switching to the blackbird to alleviate the cold bum or for other reasons?
I was looking at the Clark NX250 but I don't know how committed I am to hammocking yet for that...
Thanks coffeedrinker, just the sort o feedback I'm looking for!

Looking into HH Explorer, WBBB and Clark NX250, in order of delivered price in Australia for a full setup.
I have also bought The Ultimate Hang to read before I jump in.
Thanks for the feedback lilricky, how tall are you that the blackbird wasn't restrictive?
Wow, generous offer. I'll have a look at the Clark , thanks for the suggestion.
Thanks.
Which parts of Australia did you get to?
Thanks raiffnuke. Another WBBB hanger I see?
Thanks Duffy!
How do you like your WBBB?
Thanks HammockDreamer,
I have been looking into the WBBB (and many others). The Warbonnet site says it's comfortable up to 6'8" (2m), though I've seen reviews from people shorter than I saying it...
Thanks luckyavmc, 1 hour unpaid lunch break just makes the work day longer than it needs to be.
Thanks for the reply bubba, some more info to research tonight.
I assume most Aussies are busy working right now, posting on my lunch break.
G'day hangers, my name's Phil and I have a hammock strung on the deck in my backyard, but have recently discovered the hammock camping movement on youtube and found my way here.
I used to go...
