I am failing at adding pics!
So my son got a new gathered end hammock and a tarp for Christmas and I got a new Winter Fortress Tarp. He decided we needed to go out on the night of the 26th and test how low in temp we could take...
Great Idea! Same here, shooting traditional has led me to a bucket full of mixed shafts. I think I smell a winter project!
The lehigh valley offers the AT, if you want to come about an hour north. You can hit it in Hamburg (Berks county, just north of Reading) or come up the turnpike to the tunnel and get it at Lehigh...
I'll add one more voice to the crowd suggesting a little longer hammock. I find between 10.5 and 11 feet to really add that level of comfort. I'll also agree with the post above about sleeping...
I'll agree strongly with the fresh, dry socks and they should be a bit loose fitting. Something to consider is putting a pad under your feet, as was suggested. I think damp socks will lead to cold...
Heavy dew is something to think about, roosting Turkeys is another thing to think about. I've also thought my tarp helped to limit the amount of wind that blew through.
You feel free to play with that line length until you have comfort. The multiplier is just a guide. I have a friend with an extra wide hammock and he loves a pretty short ridge line and lays in the...
Cool, thanks for the link.
Thanks all. I appreciate the info.
All,
I'm turning here for a little guidance, or maybe a little security with a decision I'm pretty sure I want to make. I use a Grand Trunk Skeeter Beeter Pro (not the lightest but I've used it...
I'm interested to hear more about how it performs. Drive on boys! You might come up with something pretty useful and space/weight saving in the end. I did like the roll out awning on the new...
Did this once with my Skeeter Beeter, but I didn't lift up my ends to the trek poles. That is a better set up than what I did. I piled some leaves up for added comfort, spread out the hammock, used...
I think pooling is often more a function of tautness rather than pitch. Just my experience. I'm sure if there is a suggested tarp pitch angle, someone here will know it.
My success has been...
Welcome from the Lehigh Valley on the east part of PA. Lots of info here...you might feel like you are drinking from a fire hose. Take your time, feel free to make mistakes, and learn along the way.
Add some sand or grit to Plasti Dip and try that.....https://plastidip.com/our-products/plasti-dip/[/QUOTE]
Yeah, that's a good idea.
Great video, lots of real good common sense there that often gets forgotten as well as some new bits. I am going to look into those motorcycle overshoes, I can't believe I never thought of that for...
That is funny...because there is too much truth in it. Startled to near death by a raccoon who figured my hammock was a perfect back scratcher. My masculine yelling, perhaps it was smallish girl...
Yep, what Shug said.
At walmart a good exercise mat and at lowes a good piece of reflectex. You will shell out about 30 for the two. Couple that with a good sleeping bag and get outside. Try...
Looks like you're off to a good start!
All the best to you and yours in the new year.
Carry a 3/4 length pad and the seat adaptor (like thermarest has). Then it is a nice camp seat, inuslation for in your hammock if you need it, and it is a pad to sleep on ground if that comes to...
This is why I come back to this forum time and again. Thanks for the input. I sure don't post much, but when I do I get some good things to try or think about.
Would have never thought about...
Welcome from the thriving metropolis of New Tripoli...for those not familiar with the cultural mecca that is New Tripoli it is 20 miles north of Allentown, PA and 19 miles south of Tamaqua, PA. ...
Hey all,
Recently bought some 1.5" wide webbing and made myself some new tree straps. All I did was tie a loop in one end (strap about 8 feet long to allow for more hang possibilities where trees...
You might get some rubbing with the tarp over the ridge line. That said, go with what works for you. I don't use one at all.
Fallen leaves is very cool. Quilts, tarps, hammock...that pattern could work for anything.
Welcome from the Lehigh Valley.
Welcome. I'm not a gram weenie, just a regular weenie, but I'm sure you found the right place to find good information.
+1 on wanting to know when new shirts will be available. Maybe moisture wicking?
Welcome from the Lehigh Valley! Good to see more PA hangers.
That is a real nice area. You had some great pics. Got to get myself up there next summer.
I agree that you should look at county stuff, you might be surprised what could be nearer than you know.
I am fortunate to live 2 miles from an AT trail head so I literally walk up the mountain...
Is was hoping to make this one. I've never made a single group hang. Sadly I have Boy Scout commitments so I miss another one. I've already got my New Years Resolution...make a group hang!
Do you have a weight on the quilt?
Nice! Thanks for the clear pics and info. I obviously have a project ahead of me.
Thanks for the heads up, been thinking about trying my hand at making an underquilt and topquilt for warmer weather. I sew like an ape with no thumbs, but thought for the price I'd give it a...
Nothing wrong with lurking. I do way more reading here instead of posting. Glad to see I'm not alone in that. Looking forward to seeing what you add to the conversation. I've never bike packed but...
Nice pics on that mod. I've been using my SBP without a ridgeline for a few years. I enjoy it quite a bit, but after finding this I think I'll play around with the SRL through the net. HiBRiD,...
Thanks...that is an amazing thread. Going to give that a try later this season.
I should add, if anyone has good suggestions for reducing weight, feel free to let me know. I'm in the process of dropping ounces here and there, while holding on to a very tight budget, so I...
All,
I have a GT Skeeter Beeter Pro hammock. I've been using it for a few years and like it. Not the lightest or best hammock on the market, but for the price and comfort it works for me.
This...
Welcome, lots of folks here have lots of knowledge.
All,
I recently came across some plans on-line to turn a poncho liner into a UQ. The reason I liked the plans is that it didn't destroy the poncho liner, it allowed the user to loosen the shock...
You motivate me to try expanding my temp range!
I like it so far. I've used it over my grand trunk skeeter beeter and (prepare to gasp) as a tarp shelter on the ground when camping with my BSA troop. Is it the lightest, no...is it very...
Just a thought/option for trail repair.
A few years ago, I put a hole in my net on the trail and found some of my extra light fly fishing tippet in my bag (not even sure why it was there). I used...
What are you looking to do, backpack around or hike in and camp for a few days? If you are looking at packing in and staying on site for a day or two with some spike hikes out of your camp, the AT...
A stool is nice. Sitting, used as a night stand, storing your gear off the ground...it is pretty useful.
I second this! Used it for my dog when he got hit. It worked very well.
Nice job FIST! Can't believe so many 13F on the forum, then again we are everywhere and still unseen. Used an old school jungle hammock for years on the OP. Mostly used it when we were out on LFX...
