What's the make and model # of your machine?
In my photo, the semi-circular part the feed dog comes up through and the needle goes down through is the needle plate/throat plate.
The feed dog is the piece that moves the fabric.
Unless I'm doing zig zag stitching (bar tacks), I have quit using a universal foot and needle plate in favor of a straight stitch foot and needle plate.
