No advantage.....minor disadvantages.......keep using your buckles.
Man this thread is never gonna die.:D And neither is my love for cinch buckles.

Thanks to AngrySparrow for sending me a free pair a good...
Amen brother.
You should seriously consider upgrading to a bigger tarp. The small stock tarp leaves little room for error in bad weather. Also you will have more room for dressing, cooking, etc. The stock tarp...
Most tie the smaller spectra to the buckles but the thicker line that comes with an Expedition and others could work also. Are you still considering a JRB BMBH?
Why no knot with the rings?
You might consider buying a couple of 1" cinch buckles to see if you like them better.www.onrope1.com/store/index.php?p=catalog&parent=4&pg=1
They do have a $10 minimum order though. 4 rings will...
Not a dumb question. It has been asked before. If you dont use the biners, you'll have to take the webbing off the rings, wrap the webbing thru the loop, then back thru the rings everytime you...
See it was'nt so bad...a little snip here...a little snip there...:D
I've got other names for that Hennessy knot and tree huggers but I'll try to be nice. Let us know how the test goes.
Nice report Teblum. Let's get this thread rolling again.....we are being overtaken by the Bridge hammock thread.:D Oh I cant wait till the Jacks start selling theirs.
Try e-mailing Crazy Creek and ask them if you can order a couple of buckles. Someone here did this recently. They paid $3.00 for 2 buckles. If that does'nt work ask someone if they have a couple to...
My buckles are easy to undo. Rings dont slip with a slipknot.
That's an interesting way of putting the skins on.
His math is way off. My cinch buckles weigh 1 oz. each.
Here are the specs of the two biners:
Camp USA Nano
Weight 28 grams
Strength major axis open 9 kilonewtons
Strength major axis closed 22 kilonewtons
Gate open clearance 21 millimeters
Black...
Those must have recently become available. Saw them awhile back and they were not ready for shipping.
Their mentioned maybe 2,000,000 times on this thread and elsewhere.:p
Get with the program Mr.:D
It is a very nice trail. I'm no big fan of Backpacker magazine but they rated it the #1 day hike in Georgia. The main reason for it's beuty is it is part of the Tallulah gorge sytem so it has some...
Forgotten so soon:confused: :D :D :D
That would be Panther Creek Trail. Glad you had a nice time.
Yea I feel like I'm cheating also. But I just had a talk with my rings and she said two timing would be o.k with her.:p
Seriously, I will have the buckles on 2 of my hammocks and rings on the other...
Just got thru trying out the buckles Angrysparrow sent me. Thanks so much.
And thanks for the Spyderline. I put them on my first homemade hammock I made last week. They worked out really well. Easy...
Mine have always been extremely easy to undo.
Let's hope it never dies.:p
Seems most use a slip knot. I just use a plain ole knot. I worry about
that slip knot being slippery.:D
I weigh 160lbs. and have never had any slippage issues. I've wondered if someone much heavier would have more slippage problems.
The ring/buckles are a perfect case where ease of set-up far outweighs the tiny amount of extra weight you'll be carrying..
Tree huggers were not adequate for many trees I wanted to use. Have I mentioned how much I hate those things lately?
Gotta use those crash pads during testing man.
Yea anything less than 1" wide would risk damage to trees.
Make that 51 and counting......:p
Speer 1" wide polypro @ 12' per side = 5 oz.
2 Camp USA biners = 2 oz.
4 SMC rings = 1.6 oz
2' of my Hennessy Hyperlight spectra per side = less than 1 oz.
Total weight = Around 8.8 oz
That's been my experience with the ascender/bowline knot.
Angrysparrow posted this info. on another thread. Thought many would find it useful:
Don't forget that Strapworks does sewing on their products, too. If you need any loops or modifications to the...
Picture of my 3 wrap ascender knot with bowline and two half hitches.

Here's a pic of the helical knot, or ascender knot. Some other cool knots also:

I got the idea from TeeDee on page 6 of this thread.
I wrapped my spectra 3 times around the rings and tied a bowline. I have this on 3 of my hammocks and it has never failed. O.k it failed once when I failed to tie a knot at the rings. The anchor...
You well on your way to hanging bliss. You'll love that set-up.
Mine is set-up like like that as TeeDee sugeested in that post. Works great for me. No slippage. I remember reading that he now recommends another knot for the rings. Cant remember what.
Make that 402. I love this system almost as much as my hammock.:D
12' per side for me.
I think the slip knot just gives you more peace of mind. The velcro fasteners someone mentioned sound interesting, but thats 2 more things to keep up with.
I could'nt agree more. I plan on taking my Hennessy on future day hikes and use it as a chair/lounger. I hated those tree huggers.
Just a matter of time and that spectra will be snipped.:D
Looking at a pic of the ring/buckles system is like looking at a work of art.
Yea I can hear it now. "Hey Dufus, I thought I heard you moaning last night." "Did you see a huge bear?" "No Einstein, I forgot to check them there ring thingies before I checked in for the night."
Welcome to the site. Great first post. Tom Hennessy should switch to this set-up.:D
Might be concerned with liability issues though. Not that I'm worried about slippage.
This carabiner is 1 oz. and rated 20kn

Even though I cant sew a lick, I get to feel that DIY rush when I'm swinging in the trees.:p
I predict this set-up will be a favorite for some time. You will love it.
Yea thanks. You've been a great help in my first modification job.
Forget housework. You know that hammocks come first.......:p
