While more useful for your ground dwelling buddies, perhaps some of the more industrious DIY types can use these. I picked one up in case I go to ground in the boundary waters this summer. It, like...
My 9x9 arrived last thursday! Looks to be a great tarp with plenty of coverage. Now I will have to hit the fabric stores and get me a DIY put together before the weekend.
I always hang my tent (sorry for the 4 letter word!) in the shop and then stuff. Guess that is what everyone else does with their tarps as well. Thanks for the feedback!
A trip to Meers would not be complete without the Texas Toothpicks! Thanks for reminding me that I need to get my kids down there again!
Great trip report! Thanks!
And I will be adding a firesteel to my neck knife cordage!
Thanks for a well received video. I will send this link to some of my Scouts. Glad you are OK and are willing to teach others!
Do you leave them stuffed? Any concerns about that causing wear? Is storage different for different tarp materials?
Sorry if these are silly questions. My camping was done under the old canvas...
Man that looked like a good impromptu get away! And you are right about keeping a tidy camp. It is a war trying to keep my Scouts organized!
Grrr the positive reviews makes me want to get it that much faster!
How long is the blade?
And not to offend our military, but I would put more stock in a well trained Scout to be better prepared for a host of situations. As my Marine DI grandfather told me, "I trained men to kill and...
And thank you for your service airborne!
I graduated from Oklahoma State. We were the Cowboys, aka the Pokes.
Anyone getting their tarps yet? I hate having to wait for fun stuff to arrive!
Good for your Scouts! I wish them the best! My trail to Eagle has served me well in life. I hope your sons help bring more young men into the fold. Go get 'em boys!
And thanks for reminding me about the one cent shipping. I forgot to mention that in the original post.
It has to be a clothing or footware item. I did a bargain cave search sorted by price...
Kestrel, They had the 9 in stock when I ordered. The 12's were a back order possible item.
I was a bit gun shy to post the link after the whole sportsmans guide tarp fiasco. But then I remembered...
Thanks for the replies. I am going for natural colors if i can find them. But was thinking if I find a deal on some brighter colors would I be attracting trouble.!
Giving the tenters a very wide berth,
I chuckled as they flopped on the turf.
I let out a sigh
as i strung up my DIY,
Thanks for the tutorials Papa Smurf!
Cabela's online bargain cave. $42 for the 9's $49 for the 12's $63 for the 16's!

Look in the camping sale.
Bonus points if we can manage a haiku?
"Quickly" must be a very relative term!
I know bright colors can attract bees and hornets. Due to some funding issues, i am looking at a DIY gathered end hammock. Anyone notice insects with a preference for certain colors? Even better,...
Thanks for posting that link Shug. Not sure how I missed Jeff's pages before. Now I have another several hours of reading to do!
Thanks for the feedback. Sounds like it is possible but not likely, and avoidable.
Snrmoment,
What did you use to cut your carbon fiber shafts? I tried once and the tiny carbon fiber splinters scared me into giving up.
Here in the central US we get PLENTY of wind. I am worried that the ultra thin lines (zing it) will lead to trouble with my tarp wearing holes in a big wind. Has anyone had this issue with a tarp...
Looks like i could carry a couple of scouts in that thing! Any idea of the empty weight? Sorry to be a pest with all the questions, but I am not some devil dog able to carry the kitchen sink! ...
Chembrews comments about the rollers has me wondering if I know anyone with the old wringers used with the old hand wash washing stations. I know they have one at the car wash but I don't want to...
have any photos? My google image search turned up a hodge podge of packs.
Great, by the time I get my non 12x12 the 16x16's will be gone! Grrrrr
Any issues with sweating? I understand it is not too warm yet, but I am wondering about the "clammy" factor.
Has anyone who has been in contact with them addressed the lack of taped seams? If they are not wanting to make things right based on the fact that they are 12x12 on the diagonal, they should based...
Wow, thanks for the heads up! I will cross my fingers that by the time my order gets pulled that they have things straightened out!
God bless you and your amazing attitude Matt. I will help any people I can, however I can, but having my property destroyed and stolen is not on my list of charitable giving! Shutting down the chow...
This is ugly on my face, not stupid! Of course i want in!
Thanks! Good luck to everyone!
I am glad to see the tone of this discussion change from one of promoting "stealth" camping and calling those who have a position other than ours "idiots." I pride myself on being a law-abiding...
This is a lot different than the bottles of liquid refreshment I usually see consumed in the hammock!
I like the idea of getting everything at once. Being my first hammock since the old net ones years ago in Boy Scouts, I figure a "turn key" rig was the way to go. I am not looking for insulation...
Now if I can just manage to beat some of you guys to the goodies on the for sale thread!!
Thanks for a great discussion! This is exactly where I am in getting into hammock camping. I am very cheap, but I am also never more upset than when I have to spend money a second time for...
I was thinking how cool for a patrol of Scouts. Then I thought of how strong the trees would need to be to manage the moon-bounce like treatment that it would have to deal with!
Yep, I did....sorry!
"8'6" 4 piece 4 wt"
Did I miss the weight in the description?
Wow, on second read of my post, let me be clear...we would wet the cots down with water! This was not the result of the old hand in the warm water trick!
Proof-reading is your friend!
I read the post about wetting the cots. We did that at summer camp in Boy Scouts. I was wondering if anyone has tried it with the nylon hammocks?
+1 for the stick "dead man" anchor
So I guess the follow up question would be:
How many hangers are using a stock set up?
