Video link fixed! :)
Hey, guys and gals! It's been a while since I have posted anything, but today I wanted to share my latest project with you all. I call it The Susurro Canyon. The materials list is in the video...
My pleasure! :)

Thanks for the help, everyone!
I'm wondering the same thing (grosgain vs webbing) for a tarp ridgeline and side tie-outs. I'm making three tarps this summer. I think for one of them, I'm going to skip D rings, and just lark's head...
Great job!!!
I was on here researching whether or not to put gross-gain along the edge of a tarp I've got in the planning stages, and I stumbled upon your sweet tarp. Now I'm having second...
I appreciate all the suggestions and comments. I think I'll go with the full width. I considered saving for a cuben tarp, but I like having a place to hide from the full moon. I love sleeping under...
Thanks, SilverSurfr!
After some thought, I've decided to make a lightweight tarp in a hex pattern. My diy hammock is nice and cozy at 12' long, so it's ridgeline comes in at ~117". I figure the ridgeline of the tarp...
I have no comment on the adding material part, but I made a 12 footer. It's GREAT! I'm 6'1", and I love how flat it lets me get.
I was given a giant 4lb down bag that has been my sole source to stuff my UQ and TQ.
My method isn't the most desirable, but it works for me....
I just looked at the spreadsheet from the first page of the thread. It appears the "total down" cell (E16) has been altered. As it stands currently (2/19/2015 3pm MST) the cell E16 is not a formula....
Can you attach a screenshot of the spreadsheet, so everyone can see what you're working with?
Very very sad....
We have a cabin in the woods that is surrounded by some big Ponderosa Pines. A few years back a very strong gust of wind snapped a tree, and it fell across our drive way. Thank...
Thanks!
Miyanc, that article has a wealth of information in it. :) According to the article, 6 bar tack seems to be the strongest for end loops. Another factor to consider is the mass in the...
Is the box with an "x" the best way to sew loops in webbing, or is there a safer/more secure way?
I have run into the same problem, and had to look around for smaller trees.
Since then, I have made myself a new set of tree huggers, and I added a 2' dog bone made out of 1/8" amsteel to the...

OutandBack, Thanks! My camera is all but completely broken. The back screen no longer works, so I can't see what is being shot, how much battery life is left, and how much card space I have. It's the...
Down in Alamogordo, the high was 93 and the low was 63
At our stopping point for the day, the high was 97 and the low was 64
The second day was a bit cooler, because of our elevation gain. It was...
Earlier this year I had the idea to plan a backpacking trip with my brothers-in-law and step-dad from Alamogordo, NM (4700ft) up to my parents cabin (~9000ft) in the Lincoln Nat. Forest. We walked...
Excellent video!!! I'm excited for when my daughter can carry a pack.
I finished the quilt this past Saturday, and I am so excited to use it this Labor Day weekend. It came in under 2 pounds. There's 17 tubes/16baffles, and I added a piece of digital acu on the footbox...
I forgot to mention that Walmart sells a ~$20 hammock that's 8ft long. It works great for kids.
I started my daughter off in a twin size sheet with gathered and whipped ends. I guess you could use the DIY Gear Supply guide, and just alter the dimensions....
That's strange. It worked for me just now. Here's a link in case anyone is having issues.

Hey there, guys and gals! I wanted to post the process I used to sew the baffles on to my top quilt for all us visual learners out there.
It's nothing revolutionary, but I have yet to find a video...
I am referring to the DIY Quilt Calcs put together by gt7599a https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/showthread.php?48444-DIY-Down-Top-Quilt-Measurement-Spreadsheet
I spoke with my mother-in-law...
Thanks, Boston.
I have all the baffles sewn, so I just wanted to make sure that I was dealing with a lot of extra fabric rather than a having some special folding and hemming I am not aware of.
I...
I am using the DIY Quilt Calcs spreadsheet to do the number crunching for my TQ.
I am making a rectangular top quilt for this Labor Day weekend with a final dimension of 48wx78L and a baffle...
Here's a place that sells it for $2.25/ft in 9' widths.

Actually, I just checked ebay, and the prices there...
Thanks, everyone. I'll put it back in its little amazon prime box and send it on its merry little way.
I recently purchased a spool of thread from amazon.com. I typically would've got it from DIY Supply, but we had a large amazon order and blah blah blah.
It came in the mail yesterday, and the...
GREAT JOB! I can't wait to get mine started.
I've been struggling with this for the past day, and can't seem to get an answer.
The baffle material goes all the way to the raw edge of the inner...
I often find myself staring at my kid's trampoline; trying to figure out some way to make it work as a hammock stand/functioning trampoline. I think for the kids that's a great idea, but I'm pretty...
I've done a few one nighters up in the Organ mts, but never been to the Gila with the hammock.
This coming labor day weekend, my dad, three brothers-in-law and I are planning on backpacking from...
When you sewed your baffles on, did you sew the short side (ends) to the outer shell material, so that it formed a sort of tub, or did you just sew down the length of each baffle leaving the ends...
Does the baffle cut length need to be the same as the inner shell cut width, or should the baffles be cut to the desired finished width of the quilt?
Using this spreadsheet is going to be super helpful.
I've got one question, though. I'm planning on a 78"x50" non tapered TQ. When I enter that info into the spreadsheet, it says that the inner...
Welcome! I'm a New Mexican as well. :) What part of the state are you in? I'm down south in 'Cruces.
This is a HUGE help to me. I've been brain-storming how to make a round bottomed/plugged TQ. Thanks for sending me the link.
Now I just have to wait for my materials to arrive.......tic tock tic...
Sunkmail, that was so helpful! Your quilt looks great, and the plug is exactly what I had in mind.:jj:
Thanks for the link. It shall be reference often while I have the thread injector...
Once the material and thread arrives, I'll link this thread to a new TQ build thread, so others that want round bottoms:lol: on their TQ can follow along.
:thumbup:Thanks, Shug! I appreciate you taking the time to do that.
I didn't mean to highjack this thread.:glare: I'll start a new one once all the material and thread arrives. I'm going to put an additional round quilted piece at the bottom to help make that...
Hey! Thanks, Shug! I think I'm going to give the round foot-box a green light. I just need to watch a few more ladies on YouTube teaching the world how to sew circles onto things. :)
side note...
I like the idea of having more room for sure.
Could anyone recommend a good set of instructions on how to sew on the round piece without it looking like an after thought?
