View from day 2.
First trip of the year is in the books. Trip was from a Thursday at 11:45 to Sunday at 11:00. Covered 58.3 miles southbound from the 52/I-77 Junction in VA to Partnership Shelter/HWY 16 at the...
That is understandable. No fun to camp in a hurricane. I was going to hike all weekend as well and won’t be doing that.
Hiked down to campsite 3 tonight. Got a late start and ended up night hiking the last mile out. Site 3 was ok but not an ideal place for hammocks. Not impossible but not ideal. 182729

Definitely wanted to keep going. Best of luck on your next section I am surprised we haven't crossed paths before on the trail, we seem to hike a lot of the same places based on your trip reports.
You can park at the springer mountain access if it is any issue. Plenty of cars left there.
I hike up to the summit a few times a month but haven't ventured out to the back country sites. I'll try and hike that trail soon and report back if no one knows.
Thanks mcpuddleglum. For the AT i've got from Springer through around i-81 in virginia, comes out to about the first quarter of the trail. Might squeeze one more trip in this year but yes the goal...
I didn't find Georgia to be near as hard as NC/TN. Coming up blood mountain going north was a real climb and then going down was very steep as well. The other big climb was out of Unicoi Gap and...
Thanks for the report Paul. I need to get out and do this section before it gets to cold to cross those streams.
Kudos to anyone who reads my super long trip reports. I enjoy writing them so I can go back and remember some of the forgotten details.

If covid has had a silver lining for me beyond being lucky to be healthy and to for now still draw a paycheck it has been the fact that no commute has given me free time to get in better shape and...
Thanks for posting Paul, always enjoy your reports.

Back for another trip report 3 day trip going south for 2 hammockers on the AT. This section finishes NC and TN for me and I did the math. It is about 390 miles and I did this over 10 years, 11...

I've had both and am currently using whoopies. I'm probably going to go back to buckles this year. My whoopies have a long bury and while very adjustable because of the tree straps and their length...
Do you have your gear list here listed out with weights? I'd love to compare a bit, your base weight is the same as mine and I don't have a 2lb bear canister. Thanks for the video!
Love this route Paul! Thanks for posting and sharing.
Every time I have tried to upload from my computer (which has been a number of times) the uploaded has failed and I end up with blank posts. I either have to post my pictures to a photo sharing...

Just finished this trip with a friend of mine who has appeared in many of my trip reports. We are both 36 and did this trip from a Thursday at 12:30 and finished Sunday also at 12:30. We are both...
I weighed the same decision and went with dutches hammock. Works great with underquilt and is affordable. I am 6’4 and fit nicely in the 11foot hammock. I could care less ability a detachable net and...

I am still dialing in what is a mostly new set up for me as last year I spent most of my nights out in shelters and not the new system. I was playing around today with the set up and wanted to get...
I’m 6’4 215 and have a standard half zip. Also a side sleeper and have found it very comfortable. I’m sure the wide might be even better but I don’t have any complaints so far.
I’d love some drinks as well but left in a bag in bear country with skittles and oatmeal cookies is irresponsible at best
Totally agree Paul. Leaving food unattended can't be a good idea.
We did cross paths with a guy on day 2 drinking a margarita at 945 am. He got it as frail magic and half mile up the trail we found a random bag hanging with more drinks totally unattended. We picked...

I have not ever prepped my own meals. At home I cook everything from scratch and love a challenge. I make my own bread, ferment my own sauerkraut, and make a little charcuterie but on the trail I am...
Trip report from last week on a trip on the AT from a Thursday to Sunday on the AT. Did this with a friend of mine and we are both in our mid 30's and in decent shape.
We parked our cars at...
So I've started planning my next AT section of Fontanna to Davenport. It is possible that I'll split this into 2 trips depending on time but the plan for now is to do it in one big chunk. I know...
Would it work to just leave your guy lines attached to the stake rather than your tarp?
