Thanks, Grizz! Your seal of approval gives me great confidence in this abnormal setup.
My whoopies nestle snugly behind the MSHs--no risk of them jumping onto the toggle.

I use 1.5" seatbelt polyester straps with a loop in one end. I usually make a wrap around the tree and feed the strap through its loop, like the example on the left in the attached photo.
In order...
This PDF of a caving publication called "Nylon Highway" indicates that the elongated "W" is strongest. Pages 12-15 include tests of several stitches.
I think I found the link via HF a while back,...
In case you haven't handled a piece of Reflectix, I'll point out that it's a bit noisy and crinkly. Something to think about when considering it for a sleeping pad.
Thanks for the link! I recently did a single tree hang using a similar method I found on YouTube. It uses a post instead of a bike and a fallen tree instead of stakes.
I made a thread about it...
Hairbear gutted permanent markers and used the ink to color the tarp.
Here's the thread where hairbear describes his method. Scroll to post #18 for his description.
That is awesome! I'm definitely doing that just for the fun of it on my next long ride. Thanks for the idea!
I suggest doing the ridgeline seam first. In case something disastrous happens and you need to cut the seam out, you still have the full width of fabric to work with.
I just tossed the 40 or so sets I have left onto the scale. Looks like they weight less than a gram per pair, meaning a stud snap and socket snap together.
I bought from the same eBay member. You...
I built a BWDD Winter Dream using silnylon seconds from Noah Lamport. I left the material at full width to make the tarp bigger. I figured I can trim it later if I decide it's too big.
+1 on the...
The M50 isn't too terrible to work with, pretty similar to silnylon in terms of slipperiness. The fabric has a right and wrong side. The stuff I got from thru-hiker.com had a small label on the face...
Not too sure about your other questions, but I suggest you install the snaps in the grosgrain rather than the Momentum.
I made a down TQ out of M50 and had a snap rip through during the night. I...
I've placed two orders with WL and couldn't be happier with the excellent service and products! I will certainly order my down from WL again whenever I get the itch to build another UQ or TQ. Thanks...
To lengthen the whoopie, hold the sheath at the end toward the tree.
To shorten the whoopie, hold the sheath at the end toward the hammock.
Make sense?
I've been a full time hanger for about 2 months now, and have been pleased with an 8" difference on my 11' hammock.
Good luck with your projects! I have been very pleased with the tablecloth hammocks I've made. I have been sleeping in one every night for the past two months and loving it! They're cheap enough to...
A friend got me into hammocks when he introduced me to his Hennessy. I was almost ready to buy one, but decided on an ENO SingleNest instead. (I've since made my own bugnet, tarp, UQ, and TQ to...
ENO's warranty page says that hammocks with large holes or tears may be eligible for replacement. It seems the warranty claim process is different depending on if you bought your hammock directly...
I searched a little but didn't see mention of this guy's single tree setup. He has lots of other entertaining videos on his channel as well.

I tried it in the backyard and it works...
I attempted a tarp with DIY silnylon using silicone diluted with mineral spirits. I would not attempt it again--too messy and didn't seem worth the extra effort to save a few bucks on the right...
Just chiming in to +1 on the Permatex flowable silicone. $5 at your local auto parts store, much easier than thinning silicone caulk. I dusted my seams with cornstarch after sealing to keep them from...
I originally went with a drawstring closure but was frustrated with the long piece of cord dangling when it was cinched. I switched to simply gathering the foot end and using a small loop of shock...
Hey John, I sent you a PM about buying some mule tape. I'd love to have an envelope's worth, thanks!
I decided against a sewn footbox from the start to allow for flexibility with using the quilt in other situations.
I tried Two Tent's idea of gathering the end of the quilt and using a small loop...
Good idea, and certainly lighter than lugging 4 feet of shock cord and a cord lock! I've been a full-time hanger for about 6 weeks now so I will try this method tonight with a loop of shock cord,...
Hey everyone, long-time lurker and first-time poster here! Thanks to many DIY guides here on HF, I recently made a 48"x80" down top quilt with Momentum 50. I opted for a drawcord closure and plastic...
