WELCOME from Indiana (but a trans-plant from Tennessee) !!!!
Went to MTSU (1971-1974) & then UT (1977-1980); after playing soldier in between the 2.
jhunt87 -- THANKS for the report!!!! Very well written & informative. Glad you had a great & successful trip. -- Greg/Grizhicks
My mistake, I was thinking about 'porch mode', not the mod for using the poles to open the space. -- Greg/Grizhicks
brohawk -- Just thinking about it & checking the math, I would think that 6' is too short; but it depends on the height of your pole(s). I would get some cheaper line (mason line) and experiment...
I agree with "oldpappy", almost all have different rules. And since they are designed for RV's, most don't have very many trees at hanging distance apart. Even with our trailer, I generally take a...
WELCOME from New Palestine!!! I think it's going to be a while before we see any hammock weather (but this is perfect Shug weather).
kllrbee -- I have eye-bolts at the end on my rails, and use 8" soft-shackles (1/8" Amsteel) from the eye-bolts to the shackle on my hinges. -- Grizhicks
WELCOME from New Palestine, Indiana (just SE of Indianapolis)!!!! Grew up in the Madison/Goodlettsville area. -- Grizhicks/Greg
WELCOME from New Palestine!!!!
kc8mxw -- Welcome to the group!!! Can't go wrong with a call sign; no one else will have it (but I know some guys don't like using them, too easy to look up other info). I'm K9TLA, and if I every...
WELCOME to the group, from New Palestine (just SE of Indy)!!!! Great to see another Hoosier. I just a 'relaxing in the backyard' hammocker, but have made 5 so far (just out of the tablecloths). --...
Bstomper -- I'm 335# (& 5-11), and have 2 tablecloths (126x60 & 132x90), and both seem to hold me without any problems. I'm new at this, but, so far I can't tell a difference in the length (it's...
Good Morning & Greetings from New Palestine!!!!
Yes, I've heard of using the tablerunners, but, I have a 90x132 that I'm thinking about cutting down to 72" wide (would only have to run 1 seam along the cut side), and then using the left over piece...
RedStix -- While I'm fairly new at this, and only use my hammock for an hour or so at a time; from a time factor, the tablecloths are the way to go. No sewing!!! (wife will not let me use her...
I think the tablecloths are made on 2.6 oz/sq yd material, so:
square yard = 36" x 36" = 1296 sq in
90" x 156" = 14040 sq in / 1296 = 10.8 x 2.6 = 28.2 oz
60 x 126 = 7560 / 1296 = 5.8 x 2.6 =...
WELCOME from Indianapolis !!!! But grew up in the Madison/Goodlettsville area. Hope you enjoy the group (I'm sure you will).... Grizhicks
Rosie -- First of all, WELCOME to the group!!!! As 'edwilcox' put it, the ridgepole is what is keeping the tripods separate. The force on the tripods without the ridgepole, would casue them to...
My wife knew I was working on a "project", but I refused to tell her. Just ordered the tablecloths, knowing she would not open my packages. Had the TurtleDogs stands already made, so when the...
Rob -- Good afternoon and greetings from the east side (live in New Palestine & work at 21st & Arlington). I'm still a NOOB, but lots to learn here, and I know you will enjoy it. -- Grizhicks
Made 2 more this weekend (total of 4):
5' legs for 7-1/2 y/o grand son (should allow for some growth)
4' legs for 3-1/2 y/o grand daughter (whatever brother has, she has to have)
have 102"...
Ratdog -- Nice selection of colors; here's my guess on the colors (left to right): navy, chocolate, apple green, fushia & egg plant (or purple). How did I do? -- Grizhicks
Who are you addressing your question to? There are several above with a hammock on the right.
I agree with 'Tendertoe'; go with the table cloth in the crinkle taffeta. I've made 2 so far (my very first hammocks), and the are great. Mine is 132"x90", but really too big. My wife's is...
Mine are chocolate & black.... Grizhicks

Please enter me..... THANKS !!!
Thanks, guys....
I've made 2 from tablecloths, but was trying to find something local, without waiting on shipping. -- Grizhicks
Ryane -- You may want to take a look at this book; he has hiked all 3, and really feels the PCT is a better 1st hike (better quality of trail):
...
Are you wanting to run your suspension thru the end channel? or just the gather? I've just made 2 using the same sizes you have listed, and the hem is about 1/4". I was able to run a double mason...
JKDmoo is right, just about anything will work. Remember, the whipping is not weight bearing. I've made 2 tablecloth hammocks so far; started with gutted para-cord whipping, but then went to...
No problem at all; I'm about 330, and that's what I'm using. If you have not cut them yet, here's what I did:
cut each pole in half, 5' w/ swagged end
cut a piece about 2'
put both swagged end...
All, would like to make a hammock for my grand-son (7 y/o, slight build). Looking for something I can find at Walmart & just gather the ends (don't want to do any sewing). What can I use? Thanks,...
Welcome from Indianapolis!!! Grew up in the Madison/Goodlettsville area & went to UT, but am now a Hoosier. -- Grizhicks

I would get rid of the PVC; you should be able to find some type of connector for the conduit. The compression forces on the croos bar a too much for the PVC. I would go with the fencing top...
Was just looking to post about this; I ordered from "without the S"; and now my 'BS' meter has gone off. Could not find a phone number, but sent an e-mail. Hope I didn't get taken ($54); will know...
Welcome from indianapolis.... My wife and I met & married in Savannah, 36 years on 3/11. Great place to be from, but really too hot for me. -- Greg
