At what tempteould you even consider going no UQ? It’s been really hot here and I have a 5 nighter coming up. Thinking of just bringing the UQ protector but I’ve never risked it before.

Can anyone who has done the NC section of the Bartram Trail tell me how the campsites were? Mainly want to know if a group of 4 hangers will have a hard time hanging at the campsites that are marked...
Hello from Oakley.
Can anyone tell me how many inches I should add to my hammock length if I'm planning on putting knots in its ends?
Now that looks pretty sweet. Very different.
I have looked at this one as well. I don't think they are up and running quite yet though. It looks like Adam at HG is gonna give it a go. I'm going to send him my hammock and he is going to...
Thanks for the lead! I checked out dp lightweight backpacking and it's not exactly what I want but I'm getting closer. B
Thanks David, I was afraid that this might not be available just yet. I hope to take up sewing sometime soon. Perhaps one day I will have the skills and know how to pull something like this off. ...
Who besides insulhammock is selling insulated hammocks. All I want is a full length 20 degree quilt sewn to a spear style hammock. I have a WL top quilt and do not have a need for the pod style...
Check out Brevard NC. You have dozens and dozens of trails to chosse from. Plenty of water and solitude. About three hours from Charlotte.
If you are set on snow, I suggest black balsam area in the pisgah ranger district. Anything above 5000 ft should give you a winter experience. You might have to access this area via hwy 215 on the...
I will. Looks like your right in my neck of the woods. If your ever at Greenlife, come say hello. I run the meat dept. Just ask for Brian. As far as a trip goes, I will message you sometime after...
I have family in town till the 4th and can't get away till after they leave.
Looking to do a winter trip soon after the new year. Mostly likely a two or three nighter. If anyone in the Asheville area is interested, let me know. I was thinking about the Mills River area in...
So, Im currently getting by with a thermarest and and ENO hot spot for insulation. Ive been using this with a 35 degree bag for a few seasons now and I want to up grade to an underquilt and a top...
Another great report Paul! I live here in WNC and dont get out as much as you. Good for you!
When you are going through the higher elevations, you are right on with a 10* to 15* difference between Asheville and the mountains.
You will definetly not have a problem hanging anywhere on the Art Loeb. Ive been hiking there for years and there is always somewhere to hang. Even on the top near shining rock, there are plenty of...
I use just a head net and that works for me. As long as your wearing clothing, the head net will keep the bugs off your only exposed part.
Doesnt look very practical but thought it was somewhat hammock like.

I will keep these dates in mind. I would love to do this trail again just dont know if I can do it in 2 nights. Im more of an 8- 10 mile a day guy. Anyway, I will know towards the end of this month...
You need some sort of drip ring. Without metal, water will find its way in from you tree straps.
Does anyone sell nylon hammock blanks? I see DIY's poly but I was hoping to find one made from rip stop. Thanks
Thanks for sharing. The kitchen looked sweet.
You need to have either a caribiner or an smc ring to connect your hammock to your tree straps. That way when water travels down your tree straps, it will hit your ring and travel down your drip...
were they tied to metal rings or biners? You need the break in the suspention with some sort of metal or water will just ride on in. I learned that that hard way.
Any initial slippage? Thanks
Looking to make a continuous loop without having to splice. Will an overhand knot with the two ends hold? If not, which knots do you guys recommend using?
Thanks
I have the very same rings. I use only one at each end and tie a slippery half hitch with my webbing straps and it works great. No need to have two rings, just use a simple not and save on weight.
Grzz, If I was going to use just 1 ring on the hammock ends, would I still use a slippery half hitch or would you use another knot?
Thanks
The knot will need to be tied after I tension my hammck around the ring. Any other knots?
Im looking for a good knot to use to connect my tree straps to 1 smc ring. Dont want the clips and didnt really want two rings at both ends, so Im looking for a quick release knot to use on the...
Hey there guys, where can I find smc rings, polyester webbing and amsteel all under one roof. Trying to avoid 3 different shipping $$$. Thanks.
Jeff , newbie here with a question. Why the biner on the webbing and not just thread the working end of the webbing through the loop on your webbing?
Thanks
No Bigfoot unfortunately but we did get to sneak up on some turkeys though. We started at Burrels Ford Rd and ended at Sassafras mountain. We did about 8 miles a day and camped along all the major...
Can someone send me a link to a thread which talks about keeping rain off of your hammock's suspension?
Just got back from 5 nights on the Foothills trail. I wanted to take time to thank anyone out there who has helped maintain this trail. This trail might be one of the best maintained trails Ive...
Western NC here. All up in the Pisgah Forest usually
You should be able to find some coastal area near Sandy Hook beach NJ that you could put a fishing pole in the ground and get away with it. Thats if the beach is still there:(
Hey thanks for the input. I will be needing a shuttle service. When I have the dates locked down, I will reach out to you. Thanks again
This one is for anyone who has hiked the Foothills before. Im going to be doing about 40 miles or so on this trail in late December. I have never been on this trail before so I wanted to make the...
I have checked out Jeff's page. Good stuff. I was able to get Spear's hammock to un knot which allowed me to adjust the way it was originally set. A new knot was put in and now it is the most...
Funny you said that. I undid my spear hammock to "fix" the high sides and saw he knotted it. Little adjusting, another knot put back in and now its the way I like it.
Just wanted to ask people who have made these style hammocks. Why not just tie the end in a knot? Why go through the step of whipping?
Thanks
Another noobie here with a question about putting up your gear. What do most of you guys and gals do with your bag, shoes etc... when your done for the night.
Thanks Brian
Thanks guys. Sounds like there are a lot of WL fans on here. Me too.
Hey guys, once again I wanted to reach out to HF for some imput on the two tarps. I will be buying one of these before the week's end. If anyone has some feedback, good or bad, on either, please...
O.k., so after searching this forum and countless websites, it looks like a MaCat tarp has the lightest 12x10 tarp for under 120 bucks. Can anyone else chime in with another suggestion for a 12x10...
I wanted to take a quick second and thank someone who made an anonymous donation on my behalf today. Very unexpected and very appreciated.
Brian
