We got some sun today, so I got to set it up and take some pics:

I've seen one like this on ebay-kleinanzeigen (that's like german Craigslist) for far less, but can't remember how much exactly. Did you get it near Hamburg?
It's done, pics to come :-)
You could shoot a pm to hutzelbein, who has had to cover quite some gap between trees. I just can't find the thread.
So today I got around to prepare the patches for reinforcing the tie-outs. The four patches for the corners are already sewn in place on the tarp to be.

Very nice firts project! Even as a fifth, tenth or hundreth project this'd be great, but a first - you're brave for sure (and talented as it seems)
Ridgeline-seam done :)

All in all pretty much self explanatory, but here is my sketch:

All dimensions in cm (1cm is roughly 0.4 in).
It's on
Hi all,
After winning Dutch's DIY xenon tarp giveaway-giving back again, Build your ultimate tarp
way back I finally came around to start. I'd like to build a rectangular 8x11 tarp for it's...
No specials for me, just what I prefer in a pack I'd take on any hike ground sleeping.
Oh no! I feel with you.
In fact I've been looking for this exact model for some time now. Sadly I live half way around the globe from this one. Else I'd be all over this offer!
Nice! And now: Butter bei die Fische und ab nach draußen :-)
Arrowhead Equipment
Nice one, looks like you got some cozy nights above the ground ahead of you :-)
Hi all, and most of all Dutch. I'm sorry there is no progress here, I'd be very happy if I could show is the tarp by now. I have not had the opportunity to do this yet, timewise and because the...
From the pics it looks like solid work.
I think it doesn't really matter and it's a cosmetical choice. Mine are on the outside.
Gotta really believe in your sewing skills to pull off contrasting thread - thumbs up, well done!
When I made the one pair that's still in use, I hadn't any beads around. So I cut two small sections of tubing from my platypus - works fine.
My younger one slept in one of these for the first year or so:

Really great. I hung over the bed, so when she woke up b it was as easy as sitting up and being right with her.
I...
Nice one - congrats on a beautiful built. I like how you reinforced the tie-outs.
Looks good!
The main concern with a 20 degree rated UQ in warmer weather ain't being too hot, but carrying unneeded weight and bulk. UQ 's can be vented. I use my 20 degree in three seasons.
So, today I paid a visit to to my customs office to pick up a nice package of goodies:

Thank you very much Dutch!
I love that colour and can't wait to sew that stuff up :)
Now only...
For me it's hardly organize: quilts draped over a line along the wall, a big aluminum box for everything else. Some things are too big and sit on a shelf (backpacks, mats, tents).
I second that - it's about size. Just like Scotty mine is perfect in the ground and in the hammock there's lots of quilt to snuggle into :)
I'm in a similar boat. I want a tarp that can keep my 11'hammock dry in really bad weather and still perform good as a ground shelter. I recently won diy supplies from Dutch, out of which I'm going...
Yeah, I can see why. For me it started as a temporary solution...
Important is to store them uncompressed and somewhere they can breathe.
I hang mine on a line I put up in my room.
Woooha, thats me :shades:

Thank you Dutch for hosting this and thank you Alana for the good Luck! :thumbup1:
I wish everbody a sunny day
Thank you Dutch for the repeated opportunity! You humble us all.
I'd like to build a rectangular 8x11 tarp for it's versatility. It can be an excellent a-frame or porch-mode tarp and be closed off...
As I understood the rules, you are strictly required to stay in the "Boofe". Those seemingly are mostly little overhangs in the rock. You are only allowed to bivouac there. No hammock is my personal...
You choose a beautiful area for your hike. I haven't done any hiking there myself (yet) as my visit this year was with the family.
A good place to park the car might be Bad Schandau. It's a small...
I hear at least one cottage does custom work aka for example 30deg quilts. This is because as others have stated with overfill you just put more down in the chambers (for reasons like backup,...
Jup, lay back and enjoy the show. Might initially take some time for your heart to slow down enough to let you enjoy though ;)
The first one is special, isn't it? Nice weight too - would you mind sharing the dimensions of the hammock?
I use one when ground sleeping in the summer, because than I wear short clothes to "bed".
Other than that I don't use them, because:
a) when it's cooler I sleep with long underwear, which does the...
Welcome aboard!
We got you covered on the ul approach :-) although not a majority-thing around here, you'll still find plentiful info.
Enjoy
Your right a fronkey-style net won't help your issue. My top quilt never tried to do what you experienced so I can't offer insight on how to avoid it.
Real nice design and realization! I did not consider sewing myself a winter-style-tarp for reasons of weight, but always liked the idea of the extra coverage for when the rain hits hard with wind....
Me too
I never had the hammock in question in my hands, but if I'm not completely off: any underquilt made for a gathered end hammock should fit.
The question between a full length or shorter seems to be...
Sounds like the game already dug you in deep :-)
Welcome!
Wow, stunning photos!
Never tried a full length quilt. Mine is about 3/4 for me. I usually lay on it from head or shoulders, so it goes down to the knees or calves. In summer that's it. When colder some kind of pad or the...
