I started in a string hammock. I bought it as a favor from a guy trying to raise money for a worthwhile project. I paid less than $5 for it. I tried to use it to death but it will not die. I thought it was a beginner hammock. Inexpensive no frills etc... When I started to look for more of them for my family a couple of years ago I regrettably could not find anything like it. After over a decade of heavy use I finally cut through a string on accident. The cut does not compromise the utility of the thing and the repair is simple. It still hasn't quit its service.
Normal retail routes took me to Hennessy and ENO. When my search finally led me to this forum. Lots of hammockers were using them. Probably because there are lots to be found easily. Hennessy has the same going for them. I have laid in one but never slept in one. There are plenty of other options around to be had and to the person just starting out the one they start with is more likely to be considered a beginning hammock.
In my opinion its all in the opinion of the user. Having spent a bunch of time around this site I have formed a new opinion that my under $5 gift is still one of the most advanced products I have tried. One day I will wear it out to the point of it being no longer useful then I will be forced to reverse engineer it into multiple clones, with a few miner mods I have come to enjoy along the way.
