With all the wind there were no skeeters. In fact, the first couple of days without wind, there were hardly any. It was like heaven. The bears were crazy, tho. Rangers in the campground at the start (Tuolumne Meadow) had a dish and a paintball gun, and we watched all afternoon as they ran from one end of the grounds to the other. Deer in the meadow don't flinch when the gun goes pop-pop-pop.
We are planning a trip again for the guys who bailed at the beginning, probably starting from the other end this time and walking back to the cars at the Yosemite end. The YARTS ride was nearly as scenic as the hike, too. I love the Sierras!
