I like the idea of the other lashing methods, that cleat thingy (the little light one), the ring buckle style, but I had a hard time telling if these options are lighter than just using the tree straps as provided by the manufacturer. Also is there any threads on here about the lightest hammocks?
Just Jeff's site has a page about hammock weights
Whether the different suspension options are lighter than the stock HH spectra depends on the model that you have. Some models have heavier spectra than others. For me, aside from possible weight savings considerations, I find that the versatility and convenience of their use makes the 'alternative' methods worth using.
do look like a good option, but I'm going to stick with my ring/buckle setup. It is quick, light, and sturdy. Also, I wasn't a fan of the amount of stretch that I got from the stock spectra of my HH. To each their own, though.
