It is a loop, with one shelter and about 25 miles.. I dont know if that helps or not..
Also, there are a few good spots on the Knobstone to hang, in the valleys, and that would be very easy to drop a truck north and bring everyone back down south to their vehicles..
Anyway sorry for rambling... I am in as long as school permits..

I was down there 6-7 yrs ago and it was the hardest trail to follow I've ever been on and water was non-existant (of course, should be ok in April)
Knobstone would be good as long as you can find enough trailhead parking and again, that water issue
Trout...I'd recommend you decide what kind of hang you want. Car camping or little hike and stay put or backpacking (how many miles?)
Each type needs a different location and will attract different hangers
