Dangerous statement to say you'll never be under 40 degrees. You know the old saying about the best laid plans. I'd much rather have too much warmth and make adjustments than to not be able to get warm. But, maybe your weather guy is better than mine; I trust none of them.
I guess what I should have said was I don't plan trips when the temperature forecasted is going to be less than approximately 40 degrees. I used to enjoy cold weather outings, i'm not much in to them now. I have used my thermarest and down bag around 38-40 degrees and slept fine, but I could have been warmer. I have decided that some kind of underquilt is necessary for me to be completely comfortable in that temp range. So now I am exploring options.
