That is a close approximation, but not quite the lanyard knot/diamond knot that I tie. The version I use starts with a carrick bend and has one last tucking loop to bring the working ends up through the center. So you end up with
Ashley 781 appears to be a version of the lovers knot, which if using two ropes, are just two overhand knots weaved together. Tie it loosely and open it up and completely remove one working end / tail, you are left with an overhand knot in the other working end.
It also appears to be very similar in structure (but backwards/reversed) to the Alpine butterfly. After tieing the knot, Imagine the two working ends are joined and form a loop. Then pull each side 90 degrees to the knot like an Alpine butterfly.
I love how easy this version is to tie.
