Here's what I've found so far:
If you have better materials, a better source, or a way to save money please clue me in!
3-4 yds of 1.9oz ripstop
used parachute from sportsmans guide another possibility?
Walmart material(are they OK or should I look elsewhere for higher quality?)
speers has lots materials that you can order in addition to the rs. On the other hand, if you have a fabric store nearby you should be able to get 1.9 rs their. I just got some green from JoAnn's and it made a fine hammock. (Be sure to locate a coupon 40-50% off).
I have used Walmart RS to make hammocks. It is often of inferior quality and stretched a lot. On the other hand, it works. If you are not too heavy you might want to try it. On the other hand if you are going to put a lot of time into building the hammock then get better material.
whoopie sling sus. line
-7/64 or 1/8" Samson amsteel blue dyneema single braid (????source????)
-Samson 2.2mm Zing-it dyneema (???source??)
On the cheap is best for me, and local is better than ordering as I have to make my hammock within the next 2 weeks before the boundary waters trip. If you can steer me in the right direction I'd appreciate it.
If you only have two weeks you might want to think about buying a cheap hammock, or making a simple design. Just Jeff has a nice tutorial
on building a basic hammock at his site - no frills, but easy to make. A good way to get started.
BTW - an attached bug net can be challenging to make. Unless you are experienced in DIY you might want to go with one of the other bug net ideas.
