That sounds similar to what I have for the Claytor, only I have the webbing from the Claytor attached to the rings with a larkshead and then use the strap from the tree as the adjustment strap through the rings. I tie a bowline loop in the other end of the strap and thread the strap through that bowline loop to hold it tight against the tree.
I'm going to replace the straps from the hammock with rope to lighten the load.
