Cold (or even really hot) environments require attention to survival skills more than just hanging out. One needs to have a good knowledge of body temperature regulation and moisture control techniques in either environment. The hanging/camping part comes right after that, in my view.
One cannot stop adding to the body of outdoor knowledge one is acquiring. This site was another good source.
