It would be interesting to get long lengths of space blanket material and just make a full-length underquilt this way. You could shape the pads a bit and make partial UQ's too. They could be held in place with a cheap net style hammock, stretch mesh, etc.
There is no reason you can't make a simple gathered and whipped non-weight bearing hammock from any light nylon and use that for an under cover, or make channeled hems just like the poncho. Anybody who can drive a sewing machine could whip one out in a few minutes. For all I know, breathable fabric may lessen any condensation issues. A Grand Trunk Ultralight with the suspension replaced with shock cord would weigh about 10oz and work just fine.
