while I would be one some might think would carry around the exact number of square inches per square yard in my head, exactly the opposite is true. What I remember is how to derive the stuff the I need.
To compute the square yardage of a piece, given width and length,
on a calculator I would
1. enter width (in inches)
2. hit * key
3. enter length (in inches)
4. hit / (divides) key
5. enter 36
6. hit / key
7. enter 36
8. hit = key
