My vote goes to snakeskins. Here are the reasons.
1. Setting up a tarp in a strong wind is immeasurably easier with snakeskins.
2. Once up, a tarp can be left in the skins so you can view the sky while you lounge. If if rains, the tarp can be fully deployed in seconds.
3. I always store my tarp on the outside of my pack in the netting snakeskins. If the tarp is wet with dew or rain, it can dry out somewhat.
In addition, I've recently gone to a continuous ridgeline on my tarp. I leave my tarp on that ridgeline full time, inside the snakeskins. I really like this setup!
