Had the same experience with the Slap Straps. This is a known issue with nylon webbing. I bought a set of polyester tree huggers and whoopie slings from Stuart at whoopieslings.com and I'm as happy as I could be. You could also DIY the same thing without too much difficulty. Probably the cheapest option wouild be to get some of that webbing and just attach it to the hammock and tree via knots/carabiners/dutch clips, but that won't be as light as the whoopie slings. GL.
"The Road goes ever on and on,
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can.
Pursuing it with eager feet
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say."
