I guess I should try this out, but I thought the tarp lines needed to be at the same level as the ridge of the tarp.
i started with the V method - but most hammock tarps have a cat cut ridgeline =--- and rigging above the hammock suspension works to utilize the cat curve. it also prevents tarp/hmmk lines from colliding.
