Each year I teach a cooking merit badge course with everything(*) but the cooking being done in advance of summer camp and just the cooking (and the interview with a professional) at summer camp. It takes the boys about 25 or so hours to eran the merit badge this way, but the skills seem to stick and they have a great time. It consumes almost all free time with exemptions given to homework for merit badges and SPL requests.
