Has anyone changed out the "web of strings" with a more water resistant material? I was thinking zingit or lashit with fixed eyes? This would eliminate 1/2 of the lines between the hammock and the eye. I plan to order some lashit and a couple of SMC rings and give it a try since I am genuinely impressed with the cheap hammock's lay.
You're messing with disaster by removing the web of strings - I haven't heard any success stories. You may as well buy some ripstop nylon and make your own hammock, 'cause once you cut the strings off that's pretty much all you'll have left - that some bugnet fabric you might be able to reuse.
