I found the studs on opposite walls the proper distance and height away each other drilled a pilot hole and used a large eyelet as an anchor. I have had all of my walls open and know the guy who built them. (me) I was not worried about them pulling in on me. Depending on where you are going to hang, or if you know how the construction of the particular wall a 2x4 stud can hold you but as many will tell you there is a whole lot a force on that 2x4. In a buddies house his basement had 2x2 studs, not big enough. His floor joists were manufactures I beams, in that case we actually had to use a hole saw through the joist and thread a section of chain through. THere are lots of ways to do it just make sure you know its safe and solid.
