The big issue would be the aluminum ripping out. I could see this happening at either the pin or in the channel where it is holding the angle on the stake.
Your basically looking at a 12 inch stake working against something like a 1/2" lever. The mechanical advantage is huge and the pull on the stake is pretty large.
I have not tried aluminum, but did try some lighter steel tubing and it ripped out the openings. That is when I switched to the black pipe.
