I'm glad the dog didn't get me, too. That was a close one, for sure. If I hadn't been on a downhill, I'd've had to stop and that could've been really bad. Normally, I won't run from a dog (or other predator), since that triggers their chase response. But, on a bike, on a downhill, I'd take my chances with being able to outrun any dog aside from a greyhound. Thankfully, it worked.
I've been toying with the idea of getting an airhorn anyway, just to let idiot drivers who don't look
before pulling into traffic know that I'm there. So far, having a decent shout has worked okay, but I suppose if I was to ride where there were enough hills to make me out of breath...well, maybe some time soon.
