Just a tip on the usage. With this loop, you only need to seperate and cut out a few strands for a pretty short length. I have read a few techniques and they talk about removing different lengths of the strands to create a tapered effect. It did not seem to be necessary to do all that will this tool. I cut the center few strands out for about a half inch or so. And it worked just fine. I will say that the more and longer the strands removed, the easier. But all in all, it worked well with minimal time spent prepping the bury end.
FWIW...the purpose of the taper is to maximize preservation of the ropes rating after splicing. Technically the taper length should be 1 fid (21 x rope diameter).
Easier splicing is just a side benefit of the taper.
