Well i have a Patagonia #3 long sleeve half zip and an MEC long sleeve half zip. You can find sale stuff on Sierra Trading from time to time but merino is all over these days and as a light base layer probably any brand would work. If you can, get half zips. You'll want to unzip it from time to time to let the sweat out when really exerting yourself and i find half zips better than quarter zips. I also have a mid weight Woolpower which is fantastic. One thing i started doing this year is wearing one base layer till lunch and then stripping down , drying off with a small towel and putting the dry base layer on for lunch. Made a big difference in my comfort level and how long i can sit before getting cold. When your exerting yourself wear as little as possible on top. Let yourself be cool rather than warm. You'll reduce perspiration and as soon as you stop and put cloths back on you'll warm back up. It takes a while to find out how YOUR body works but by getting out regularly you'll figure stuff out.
