This belief is shared by others and reinforced in a recent lengthy video by Herr Professor Hammock when it is taken as a given.
Want to hang your hammock between closer trees? Surrender the assumption that the centerline must be in line with with the centers of the trees. Tie one or both ends instead to the side(s), or if the bury is long, even to points close to the backs (of small trees.)
Looking forward to expressions of concern for fiddle and measurements of the resultant torque on the trees. But, I didn't say this would be accomplished without addition of minor new skills.
