Been watching this thread as I usually make channel end hammocks and am about to make some more. Spyed an interesting item at WalMart tonight...
The green biner is about 6 inches long with a huge bottom gap. Now I know these aren't climbing rated, but the largest one did have a gate on the latch. I was considering that the large biner may work if a simmiliar sized continuous loop of Amsteel bore the most of the load while the biner mainly worked to keep the channel end spread as wide as possible. The Amsteel would also be a fail safe if the biner failed.
I could be completely way off here... I'm by no means an expert on the loads our hammocks need to work with. Just figured I would throw this idea out there for debate. The size of the biner seems to be perfect at least.
