Actually adding a slipped half is not advised with the current buckles. The knots can pull the webbing out of alignment and could cause a failure of the strap. No knot with the tri-buckle.
As others have said the strap coming back up out of the buckles,,,the buckles them selves and a string of sorts if you still worried about it will all work as suitable drip points. Just get the tarp over the buckles on each end and they should be plenty.
