If it helps, think of a cantilever. A 200 lb weight can support a 1,000 lb weight with a cantilever.
You would be correct if the suspension hung straight down at 90 degrees from horizontal, but that's not the case. In fact, the closer the suspension comes to horizontal, the closer the effective weight approaches infinity.
