the knot will derate the amsteel almost 50%, like knots do with all type of rope... that is why splicing is preferred... but if you cannot or just don't want to splice then yes a knot will work assuming you have factored in a safety factor somewhere...
I will be using the loop to attach a dutch biner and then wrap the amsteel round a tree a few times and clip the biner back onto the amsteel, so it shouldnt be taking my whole weight.
This will be on my edc hammock, which will only be used as a chair when I go out walking, so will only be in use for half an hour at a time.
What sort of safety factor could I use or should I be ok for this use?
